Jets vs. Bills Prediction
It’s rather remarkable that the Jets currently sit two games above. 500 at this point of the season. They have dealt with injuries to several key players, and they’re currently playing their third-string QB from the preseason.
Despite all of that, the Jets continue to find a way to battle and stay competitive in tough matchups. That’s certainly what they have in front of them this week against the 9-3 Buffalo Bills, but it’s worth pointing out that these two teams played just a month ago, and New York walked away with the victory.
On Nov. 5., the Jets held Josh Allen to just 205 passing yards, no passing touchdowns, and two interceptions. He did find the end zone twice as a runner, but holding Allen to under 250 passing yards and no passing touchdowns is an incredible feat. No other team has done that this season!
The Jets have proven that that game wasn’t a fluke, though. This secondary can shut down the best offenses the league has to offer, and it’s evidenced by the fact that they’re allowing the 7th fewest passing yards per game this season with just 194.3.
That same level of dominance from their secondary will need to be there again this week as Allen’s no longer dealing with an elbow injury that hampered his play, and the Bills have averaged 28.25 points per game since their dust-up with New York last month.
The key to New York winning this matchup and moving to 2-0 on the year against their division rival greatly depends on their defense keeping Allen and the Bills in check. If that happens, and the offense can show signs of life like it has the past two weeks, we could have another close game here that ends with the Jets moving to 8-5 on the season.
On the Bills’ side, they now sit in first place in the AFC East after a victory last week over the Patriots and a Kansas City loss. For all the alarm bells that were sounding just a month ago, they’ve corrected the ship and now sit back on top where many predicted that they would be going into the season.
Despite the loss of Von Miller on defense, the Bills have continued to be a dominant force up front. They’re allowing the 5th fewest rushing yards on average over the last three games, and the defensive front for Buffalo will be needed this week to put more pressure on the second-year QB.
Mike White has stepped in as the starting QB for the Jets over the past two games, and they’ve scored 31 and 22 points, respectively in those outings. However, he hasn’t faced a test quite like this Bills’ defense.
The key for Buffalo to win this divisional matchup – and hold onto 1st place in the AFC – rides on being able to make White uncomfortable and force turnovers. The offense should continue humming for Buffalo, but if the defense can force some errant throws and capitalize on them this week, we should see another Bills’ victory.
