As we get further into the season, we see weather play a factor more frequently in games. Just in time for the opening of the fantasy football playoffs in Week 14, Pacific Northwest rain and weather will hit the New York Jets at Seattle Seahawks game. With a 4:05 PM ET kickoff, what is the forecast, and will it impact the game and your chances of winning this week?
Jets / Seahawks weather forecast for Week 14
It wouldn’t be a late-season game if we didn’t see some kind of rain in the Pacific Northwest.
Starting late on Saturday night, the rain will move into the Seattle area and stick around until early Monday morning. Chances of precipitation cap out at 90% between 6:00 AM ET all the way to 3:00 PM ET. Luckily for us, this is a 4:05 PM ET kickoff, so the chances drop, but it is still expected.
While the chances will drop a bit to 60%, rain is still expected to be in the area for kickoff. On the plus side, unless there is a chance in the current forecast, rainfall totals shouldn’t be an issue. During the course of the game, expect to see around a tenth of an inch of accumulation.
Other than the rain, this won’t be too bad as far as the weather goes for the Jets and Seahawks matchup. Temperatures should be mild, relatively speaking for Seattle in Week 14, around 44-degrees Fahrenheit with winds around six mph. You should have no issue starting your typical players for the Jets and Seahawks for fantasy football.
How Seattle weather impacts your fantasy players
The Jets have major issues, but we all knew that
Unfortunately for the Jets, the weather in Seattle is the least of their issues when taking on the Seahawks.
Not only do they have to face Russell Wilson, DK Metcalf, and the rest of the Seahawks, but they have to do it while being depleted at the WR position.
Rookie WR Denzel Mims is currently in his home state of Texas, tending to a family emergency, and is out for the game. Due to NFL protocols and missing the required testing, Mims was ruled unable to suit up earlier in the week.
Also, WR Jamison Crowder is questionable after sustaining a calf injury late in the week in practice. For four weeks in the middle of the season, Crowder was a must-start in fantasy. He was the WR8 from Week 4 through Week 6, but he has been forgettable since then.
Since that time, Jamison Crowder has been the WR78. He has 11 receptions on 18 targets for 120 yards and three touchdowns in the last four games. It’s worth noting that two of those touchdowns came in their previous game. Crowders’ finishes during this stretch are WR44, WR87, WR67, and WR8.
WRs Breshad Perriman and Braxton Berrios could be interesting desperation plays
Expect Breshad Perriman to be the primary receiver against a Seahawks defense that has struggled this season. Perriman had 11 receptions on 19 targets for 234 yards and three touchdowns since Week 9. For deeper leagues, Braxon Berrios is interesting but only a play for the bold. His only two touchdowns on the season came back in Week 2 and Week 3.
However, those are the weeks that Jamison Crowder missed due to a groin injury. If you play in DFS, he could be an interesting low-percentage option.
Seattle’s stars should shine against a terrible Jets defense
Despite any rainy weather we see in the Seattle area, the Seahawks are still playing the 0-12 Jets at the end of the day.
A matchup like this is not one that you need to overthink. Wilson should have a field day throwing to Metcalf. Since entering the NFL in 2019, DK Metcalf leads the NFL in yards per reception with 16.69 (minimum 100 receptions).
Tyler Lockett should have a “get right” game on Sunday
Is anyone else concerned with Tyler Lockett? Yes, Metcalf commands his own share, but Lockett has been disappointing outside of a few games in 2020. In three games against the Cardinals and Cowboys, Lockett has 42 targets, 33 receptions, 367 yards, and seven touchdowns. In those three games, he scored 117.7 PPR points or 37.23 ppg.
In his other nine games, Lockett averages 6.5 targets, 4.7 receptions, 51.8 yards, and has just one touchdown. Of his 207.4 PPR points in 2020, 44% came in three games.
But nothing cures the blues like facing the Jets, even if the weather is a bit rainy in Seattle. Lockett is a high-end fantasy WR2 for the Seahawks in this week.
