Aaron Glenn, New York Jets’ Statement on Aaron Rodgers

In a statement released to the New York Jets official website and NFL.com, Glenn thanked Rodgers for his time with the franchise and outlined how the decision was made at this time to ensure that both parties had the ability to “plan for our respective futures.”

“Last week we met with Aaron and shared that our intention was to move in a different direction at quarterback. It was important to have this discussion now to provide clarity and enable each of us the proper time to plan for our respective futures. We want to thank him for the leadership, passion, and dedication he brought to the organization and wish him success moving forward,” the statement read.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, there is an expectation that Rodgers will be released after June 1 to help the Jets’ salary cap situation.

“This will likely be a post-June 1 release, I’m told, to help manage the cap hit,” he stated on X.

Will Rodgers Play in the NFL Next Season?

It is unclear whether the future Hall of Fame QB Rodgers will call it a career now that he has been released by the Jets. Though unquestionably a disappointing tenure with the Jets, Rodgers appeared to turn a corner in the final five games of the regular season after coming off a brutal Achilles injury the year prior. During that five-game span, he averaged 254 passing yards per game, had nine touchdown passes, and only three interceptions.

With the news of the release, Rodgers will be able to talk with other teams. However, he will be unable to tryout or sign with another franchise until after he is officially released by the Jets, something also confirmed by Rapoport.

With many teams around the league in need of adequate quarterback play, there appears to be a market for the talents of Rodgers. With any QB-needy team a potential option (except the Jets), it will be interesting to see what Rodgers decides for his future.
