The New York Jets made another free agency splash by signing wide receiver Mike Williams to a one-year contract.
Although he’s currently recovering from a season-ending torn ACL, Williams’ addition fills a major need for the Jets to have someone opposite of Garrett Wilson for Aaron Rodgers.
While credit goes to the organization for getting the deal done, much is also being given to one Jets fan for his involvement in the recruitment process, which has taken social media by storm.
Jets Fan Goes Viral for Sending Mike Williams a Breakfast Sandwich
Jets fans can thank “@NYJ_Matt” on X (formerly known as Twitter) for getting Mike Williams to ink a one-year deal in New York.
Matt sent the Jersey-famous Taylor a ham, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich to the Jets’ practice facility and headquarters in Florham Park for Williams to receive upon arrival for his visit. The Jets kept everyone updated via social media, posting that they received the sandwich.
Once Williams signed his deal with New York, the team posted the long-awaited video of him finally eating his breakfast sandwich.

“Where’s this place at?” Williams asked about where his sandwich was ordered from. “It’s good. It’s good. This is what got the deal signed right here.”
Williams played all seven of his NFL seasons with the Chargers, who drafted him No. 7 overall in the 2017 Draft. During his seven years in Los Angeles, Williams caught 309 passes for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns.
Williams, 29, will join holdovers Wilson and Allen Lazard in New York’s receiving room, providing a top weapon for Rodgers, who will need that stability while working back from the Achilles injury he suffered just four snaps into his Jets career.
Williams has an injury history of his own, missing most of last season with a torn ACL suffered in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings. The year prior, in 2022, he suffered a small transverse process fracture in his back in the season finale against Denver. This kept him out of the team’s lone playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
If Williams and Rodgers can both stay healthy, the Jets are a force to be reckoned with in the AFC. They added left tackle Tyron Smith from the Cowboys to add some protection for their 40-year-old QB and one of the NFL’s best available receiving options in Williams.

The Jets are obviously very excited to have Williams wearing green, and NYJ Matt is a big part of that. To tribute, the Jets even changed their profile picture on X to the famous breakfast sandwich.
