Jerome Ford’s Dynasty Value | Fantasy Outlook, Ranking, and More

A devastating knee injury to RB Nick Chubb last September thrust Jerome Ford into a leading role in the Cleveland Browns backfield last year. Did Ford perform well enough to solidify a secure role in this Cleveland offense moving into the 2024 NFL season?

Jerome Ford’s Dynasty Outlook

On the surface, Ford had the most productive year of his NFL career in 2023. He finished the season as the RB16 overall in PPR formats with 1,132 total yards and nine scores on 248 touches.

In addition, some of his advanced metrics looked pretty good. Ford was amongst the league leaders in broken tackles (21) and explosive carries of 50+ yards (2).

Unfortunately, he finished second in the league on rushing attempts where he was tackled for a loss, which happened 34 times out of his 204 carries this year.

Ford’s fantasy football dynasty value is certainly in flux at the current moment. He didn’t play well enough to force the Browns to make a business decision and move on from Chubb this offseason, which is evident by the fact that an aging RB Kareem Hunt took away nine rushing touchdowns from Ford this year.

If Chubb recovers swiftly from his knee injury and resumes his leading role in this backfield, then Ford has very little standalone value outside of being a big-play complementary threat. On the flip side though, Ford does have a theoretical path to an expanded role again in 2024.

This is the second time Chubb has suffered a catastrophic knee injury during his football career, and he’ll turn 29 later this year. There isn’t exactly a guarantee he’ll ever return to his Pro Bowl form.

It’s unlikely, but Cleveland could decide to part ways with Chubb this offseason, which would obviously present Ford with a great opportunity and a significant bump in dynasty value heading into next season.

Ultimately, Ford proved he’s a productive handcuff with some standalone fantasy value last year. Unless something drastic happens with Chubb this offseason, Ford has a similar forecast for 2024.

Ford’s dynasty value isn’t exactly cut and dry at the moment. The unknown status of Chubb’s injured knee clouds Ford’s outlook heading into 2024, making him a tough dynasty asset to put a definitive price point on right now.

One could argue Ford’s best-case scenario played out in 2023, and the results were good but not outstanding. Ford feels like a mid-to-late second-round value in upcoming rookie drafts for players looking to buy or sell him at this time.
