Jeff Wilson Jr. Waiver Wire Week 10: A Mandatory Addition

After an impressive debut for the Miami Dolphins, is RB Jeff Wilson Jr. a mandatory addition off the Week 10 waiver wire for fantasy managers?

Week 9 was a great one from the injury front. We escaped without many players going down. Yet, there’s a big money Week 10 waiver wire pickup. Jeff Wilson Jr. made his debut for the Dolphins and was very effective. How much of a priority is Wilson for fantasy football managers to add off the waiver wire ahead of Week 10?

Jeff Wilson Jr. Had an Immediate Role in Week 10

I’m not going to lie here. I expected head coach Mike McDaniel to ease his new asset into action. Sure, Wilson is familiar with McDaniel’s system from their time together in San Francisco. However, this is a new team and a midseason switch. Yet, Wilson was heavily involved right out of the gate.

Wilson was in an immediate even timeshare with Raheem Mostert. Technically, Wilson played “ahead” of him, given that he out-snapped Mostert 28-26. It was a really impressive debut showing for the former 49er.

Wilson carried the ball nine times for 51 yards, blowing past his projection on Underdog Fantasy. He added three receptions for 21 yards and a touchdown. Wilson pretty much split routes run with Mostert evenly down the middle. He ran 13, and Mostert ran 12.

If Wilson is getting this much burn without knowing the playbook, that gives him significant upside. The Dolphins have shown they’re willing to use him immediately. He could just earn his way into the lead role. Then, there’s also the possibility of a Mostert injury, which would make Wilson a league-winner.

How Aggressively Should Fantasy Managers Pursue Wilson Off the Waiver Wire?

When the 49ers acquired Christian McCaffrey, fantasy managers rightly assumed Wilson would be vanquished. As a result, he was dropped in over half of fantasy leagues. After his trade to Miami, evidently, not enough people picked him back up.

Wilson presents a rare opportunity to obtain a rest-of-season RB3/Flex running back that also possesses high-RB2 upside.

Fantasy managers in need of a running back should do whatever it takes to get Wilson. Even those managers who are set at the position should be all-in on Wilson.

With each successive week, FAAB becomes less and less valuable because anyone you pick up is spending fewer and fewer weeks on your roster. So Wilson is a priority pickup and worth at least 25-30% of it.

If you play in a league that still uses the continual rolling list waiver priority system, it’s time to burn it. However high it is, I don’t care — use it on Wilson.
