Jayden Daniels Shuts Down Rumors That He Doesn’t Want To Be Drafted by the Patriots

    Published on

Previous concern surrounding the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback's reluctance to play with the Patriots may have been an overreaction.

It appears a rumor running rampant surrounding the reigning Heisman Trophy winner is false.

Monday evening following the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, Scott Perry of NBC Sports Boston detailed a rumor he heard surrounding Daniels’ willingness to play in New England as a native of California.

“What I did hear about Daniels is that there are those in his camp who really would rather he not come to New England,” Perry said Monday night.

“That’s probably climate-related. Guy grew up in San Bernadino, Calif., played at Arizona State and LSU, and now all of a sudden he’s in Foxboro, Mass., trying to figure things out when it’s snowing and below freezing? Again, I don’t think that would be a concern for the Patriots, but it would be interesting to see how he would embrace the area.”

It appears, from Daniels’ perspective, that the report isn’t true.

    Jayden Daniels Responds to Report

After Perry’s report got picked up by one of several major content aggregators on Twitter, Daniels responded with the simple cap emoji, essentially saying that the report was not true.

The former Arizona State and LSU prospect spoke highly of New England in his interviews with head coach Jerod Mayo and the rest of the organization.

While Perry also acknowledged that his report would probably not deter the franchise from selecting Daniels if he were made available with the third overall pick, it didn’t stop plenty of aggregators from jumping down the ship of questioning whether the Heisman Trophy winner was worthy of being a top overall selection.

In his second season with the LSU Tigers, Daniels threw for 3,800 yards and had a 40-touchdown season. His 72% completion percentage was accompanied by a 1,000-yard rushing season as well.

His dominant season with the Tigers led to his Heisman Trophy win and has allowed Daniels to be considered one of the top quarterbacks of the 2024 NFL Draft class. With the third overall pick, the Patriots have long been considered a favorite to land one of the top three quarterbacks.

And even though there have been rumors surrounding one player’s disappointment to play in Foxboro, those concerns may not be true in the first place.
