Why Jared Goff Didn’t Finish the Game in Week 6

The Lions inserted backup quarterback Hendon Hooker with 8:02 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Goff finished 18-of-25 for 315 yards and three touchdowns, good for a ridiculous 153.8 passer rating. That’s one game after Goff set an NFL record by going 18-for-18 vs. the Seattle Seahawks.

Excluding a kneeldown to end the first half, Goff led scoring drives on all nine drives he played vs. the Cowboys.

At the time of his last drive, the Lions had a commanding 47-9 lead, embarrassing the Cowboys after a controversial Week 17 loss in Dallas last season.

In an homage to that moment, the Lions attempted to score a touchdown with an offensive lineman on multiple occasions on Sunday, though an apparent Penei Sewell hook-and-lateral was offset by an ineligible man downfield penalty.

Hooker was a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of the University of Tennessee, but he was recovering from a torn ACL as a rookie. This is the first appearance of his NFL career.
