Jared Goff threw a pick-six in the second quarter of the Detroit Lions’ Divisional Round game vs. the Washington Commanders. That may not have even been the most costly part of the play, as Goff was forced to exit the game after taking a massive hit on the return.
Here’s the latest injury update on Detroit’s starting quarterback.
What Happened to Jared Goff?
UPDATE: Goff returned to the game on the following drive and finished out the first half.
ORIGINAL: Goff threw a pick-six with 5:25 remaining in the second quarter to Commanders safety Quan Martin. On Martin’s return, Goff was leveled by Washington linebacker Frankie Luvu.

Although Goff doesn’t have the same protections he would as a passer on a return, officiating analyst Mike Pereira noted that Luvu should have been flagged on the play for a helmet-to-helmet hit.
Goff went to the blue medical tent for further evaluation, likely for a head injury. The good news is that he appeared ready to re-enter the game with his helmet in hand. However, wide receiver Jameson Williams ended Detroit’s drive with a 61-yard rushing touchdown, keeping Goff on the sidelines a bit longer.
Teddy Bridgewater played the series in Goff’s absence. Bridgewater was coaching high school football as recently as last month but signed with the Lions the day after Christmas. This was his first appearance in a game this season, though Bridgewater did serve as Goff’s backup last year.
Goff is having a spectacular season, as his 92.8 QB+ during the regular season ranked second behind presumptive MVP Lamar Jackson. However, it appears the Lions dodged a bullet for now, as any prolonged absence from Goff would be a huge blow.
