Jared Goff’s Contract Details, Salary Cap Impact, and Bonuses (Updated 2024)

The Detroit Lions have signed Jared Goff to a monster contract extension that makes him the second-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL by average annual value. Here are all of the details on Goff’s new contract with the Lions.

Jared Goff’s Contract Details and Bonuses

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report that Goff and the Lions have agreed to a four-year, $212 million extension that includes $170 million guaranteed.

With his new extension paying him $53 million per year, Goff now only trails Joe Burrow in average annual salary among all NFL players. Before Goff signed his extension, Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert was the second-highest-paid player in the NFL.

Goff’s total salary of $212 million is the 10th-highest in the NFL; meanwhile, his $170 million guaranteed places him at sixth.

Goff’s new contract also makes him the highest-paid player in franchise history for the Lions.

Detroit Lions Lock Up Core Offensive Players in 2024 Offseason

In addition to Goff, the Lions have also signed WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and OT Penei Sewell to huge contract extensions this offseason.

Right before the 2024 NFL Draft, the Lions extended both St. Brown and Sewell on the same day. St. Brown signed for four years, $120 million, while Sewell agreed to a four-year, $112 million contract.

In locking up these three core players on offense, the Lions will spend up to $444 million.

How Does Goff’s Contract Affect the Lions’ Salary Cap?

Details on the structure of Goff’s contract and how it will impact the Lions’ salary cap in 2024 are unknown at this time.

Before he agreed to his contract extension with the Lions, however, Goff was slated to have a cap number of over $32 million according to Over The Cap.

Considering Goff will likely convert much of his 2024 base salary to a signing bonus in his new contract, which will get prorated against the cap for up to five years, it’s safe to assume that his salary cap charge will come down for this season.
