Wide receiver Jalen Reagor was waived by the Minnesota Vikings to make room for former Miami Dolphins running back Myles Gaskin. The Vikings acquired Reagor from the Philadelphia Eagles last summer for two late-round draft picks. Reagor teaming with Justin Jefferson was ironic because, in 2020, Philadelphia selected Reagor one pick ahead of Minnesota drafting Jefferson.
Reagor recorded 64 catches and three touchdowns in two seasons with the Eagles. Last season, he only had eight catches and one touchdown in 17 games with Minnesota. In the preseason, Reagor had eight receptions for 93 yards and no touchdowns.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that teams were calling the Vikings inquiring about a potential trade for Reagor. As a result, it seems likely a team will claim him off the waiver wire.
Reagor is owed over $2.4 million in guaranteed base salary. If an NFL team claims him on waivers, they will be responsible for the entire salary.
Possible Landing Spots for Jalen Reagor
Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts’ new head coach is Shane Steichen, who was the Eagles’ offensive coordinator for Reagor’s second year in Philadelphia.
On Tuesday, the Colts only had four wide receivers on the initial 53-man roster after their initial cuts. In fact, Isaiah McKenzie and Michael Pittman Jr. are the only receivers with more than one year of experience.
Reagor had 33 catches on 57 targets and started 13 games under Steichen.
Denver Broncos
The Broncos reportedly showed interest in trading for Reagor this week. With Jerry Jeudy out injured with a hamstring injury, Denver only has four wide receivers on its current roster. Reagor could slide in to help out the Broncos as Jeudy recovers.
New head coach Sean Payton’s system in New Orleans featured several options for Drew Brees to throw to. With so few healthy receivers, this could be an option for Reagor to get more targets than last season.
Kansas City Chiefs
The defending Super Bowl champions are another team that was rumored to have an interest in Reagor. Kansas City is a team that has shown a willingness to take on a former first-round pick.
Kadarius Toney, who the New York Giants selected in the first round of the 2021 draft, was a Chiefs midseason acquisition last year. He scored three touchdowns in seven regular-season games after arriving in Kansas City and also caught a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson was with the Eagles when Reagor was drafted in 2020. One issue that could prevent Reagor from heading to Jacksonville is the Jaguars’ depth at wide receiver, with seven players on the initial 53-man roster. Four of the seven have been in the league for at least five seasons.
Under Pederson, Reagor averaged 12.8 yards per catch in his rookie season. He had 31 catches and started 11 games.
