Jalen Ramsey Injury Update: A Big Development in Miami Dolphins CB’s ‘Restart’

Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey hinted at a return to practice Wednesday less than three months after major knee surgery.

Less than three months after undergoing major knee surgery, Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey is poised to return to practice.

Ahead of the Dolphins’ Wednesday practice, Ramsey — sporting a fresh haircut — posted a collection of dramatic, black-and-white portraits with the caption: “The Restart 🤟🏾❤️‍🩹.”

A short time later, NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe tweeted out confirmation that Ramsey will return to practice Wednesday.

From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!

Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey Injury Update

Ramsey has been weeks ahead of schedule in rehabilitation from a significant procedure to repair a damaged meniscus.

The original reported timeline was a four to five-month recovery. And it still could be four months in total until Ramsey actually appears in a game.

Assuming Ramsey does indeed return to practice Wednesday, it triggers a three-week practice window. The league allows players designated to return from injured reserve those three weeks to practice on the rehabbed injury before having to decide whether to activate them to the 53-man roster or leave them on IR for the rest of the season.

The Dolphins have games the next three weeks ahead of their bye. So logic suggests they are targeting a Week 11 return for Ramsey. The Dolphins host the Raiders on Nov. 19.

The plan for Ramsey was always to play again in 2023. But the Dolphins have refused to place expectations on his recovery time.

When asked Sunday to confirm an NFL Network report that Ramsey could practice this week, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel was intentionally vague.

“I think he’s doing great, guys, and I guess you’ll have to tune in weekly on Wednesdays to see whenever things take a next step,” McDaniel said.

“Weekly. So when is that? It’s on a Wednesday. But what Wednesday it’ll be, again, I’m not just being annoying with timelines, I’m trying to be real with — I think it’s getting ahead of yourself, especially in situations like this to all of a sudden jump ahead a couple months, a couple weeks, whatever the timeline is, but when he’s ready to go, he’ll be a loud voice in my ear.”

Ramsey’s return would be a huge lift for a Dolphins secondary that has had coverage issues in his absence.
