The 2025 NFL Draft is just a few months away, and the hype around this year’s draft class is not slowing down anytime soon.
Analysts Tony Grossi and Zach “Chopz” Frydenlund recently discussed the possibility of Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry picking Alabama’s star quarterback Jalen Milroe to fix their franchise QB issue.
NFL Analyst Highlights How Browns Can Pick Jalen Milroe During the 2025 NFL Draft
Milroe was appointed as Alabama’s starting quarterback for two years, taking on a leadership role, especially through the Nick Saban-Kalen DeBoer transition.
Milroe had a difficult season, throwing for 2,844 yards and 16 passing touchdowns, 20 rushing touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. However, Grossi and Chopz discuss his athleticism and skills, which are similar to those of Super Bowl champion (and former Alabama QB) Jalen Hurts.
People often compare Milroe’s and Hurts’ dual-threat capabilities and dynamic playing style. However, his struggle with short-area throws could impact the team’s immediate success.
Chopz asked whether Tony thinks Berry was watching the Kansas City Chiefs-Philadelphia Eagles showdown and thinking to himself if he can actually turn Milroe into Hurts or if he should take a defensive tackle early instead.
“I’m sure Andrew Berry was watching that game. What stood out to him more, that he should take a defensive tackle early or whether he could turn Jalen Milroe into the next Jalen Hurts?” Chopz questioned Grossi.
“You know what? I think, Andrew, we’ve mentioned this before. He (Berry) came from Howie Roseman. That’s his idol. I think he has tried to build the Browns’ similarly strong defensive line and strong secondary… The difference is, somehow, Howie Roseman manages to find decent linebackers in between those two defensive sets, and you’re right. I think it reinforces, in his mind, that the quarterback that he prefers is one that can run.”
“Now, Hurts was the leading ground gainer in the game but is so much more of an advanced passer than Milroe, but it reinforced it, or let’s say it reinforced in my mind that Berry, I think, sees the ceiling of Milroe being Hurts. Now, it might take him a while to get to that ceiling — far longer than it took Hurts, but I think that’s the model in his mind,” Grossi replied.
“Now, Jalen Hurts was the leading ground gainer in the (Super Bowl), but is so much more of an advanced passer than Jalen Milroe, but it reinforced in my mind that Berry, I think, sees the ceiling of Jalen Milroe being Jalen Hurts.
“Now it might take him a while to get to that ceiling, far longer than it took Hurts, but I think that’s the model in his mind,” Grossi replied.
The 2025 NFL Draft will take place in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from April 24 to April 26.
