The dynasty fantasy football conversation surrounding Las Vegas Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers is an interesting one — he scored 10 times in 2023, a dramatic swing-up for a player with eight touchdowns in his four seasons with the New England Patriots.
At 27 years old, age isn’t a major concern, but the quarterback uncertainty for the Raiders has managers unwilling to commit fully. Should you be confident enough in the career year from Meyers to target him, or is it best to cash in a chip that has gained value over the past 12 months?
Jakobi Meyers’ Dynasty Outlook
The 27-year-old WR impressed at points in 2023 as he took on a new role that moved him out of the slot. That change gives him access to higher upside targets, but the quality of those targets is in question without stability under center in Las Vegas.
- 2021: 66.7% of routes were in the slot
- 2022: 56.3%
- 2023: 26.4%
This isn’t an ideal transition — over the past five seasons, slot targets are worth 2.1% more half-PPR points than all other looks to receivers. That isn’t a huge number, but it speaks to the value of efficiency, as slot opportunities are converted more often and thus support consistent fantasy production.

The value of targets earned is one question that deserves to be asked, and his volume is also a concern. Under QB Aidan O’Connell (the presumptive starter for 2024, given his rookie contract) in 2023, Meyers saw just 17.1% of the targets.
That’s not an awful rate, but is that worth holding onto? That puts him in the Green Bay Packers WR Romeo Doubs and Seattle Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba neighborhood from last season, a rate that I’m not confident lands Meyers as a fantasy asset on any sort of regular basis.
Meyers is a good player who will produce decent numbers, but the path to significant growth isn’t clear in my eyes. He posted a 31.6% contested catch rate in 2023, another middling metric that leaves him without a clear upside case.
I’m using his first season with the Raiders as much of a springboard as I can when it comes to getting out of the Meyers business — go get yourself a younger piece with more potential or a veteran that can help you win now with an established QB.
Try to avoid the middle ground where Meyers appears destined to fall.

I’d be more than happy to move on from Meyers, given his increase in value from last offseason to this one. Wanting to separate yourself from the Raiders’ pass game isn’t the worst idea, and while the “Davante Adams will attract all of the attention” angle makes logical sense, it hasn’t held water in the past.

Here are the recent second-most productive receivers (yardage) in an Adams-led offense:
- 2022 Raiders: Mack Hollins caught 57 passes for 690 yards
- 2021 Packers: Allen Lazard caught 40 passes for 513 yards
- 2020 Packers: Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught 33 passes for 690 yards
- 2019 Packers: Allen Lazard caught 35 passes for 477 yards
- 2018 Packers: Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught 38 passes for 581 yards
I don’t doubt that Meyers will have his moments in 2024: he’s a good player.
That said, his situation is less than ideal. And while he was able to overcome some limiting circumstances last season, betting on him to sustain viability is not something I am comfortable doing.
