Should I Draft Jakobi Meyers? Raiders WR’s Fantasy Outlook in 2023

Las Vegas Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers was brought to town to give Jimmy Garoppolo a security blanket. Can he turn that role into fantasy glory?

Jakobi Meyers has proven to be a slow machine for fantasy football managers and finds himself in a potentially advantageous spot with the Las Vegas Raiders. Josh McDaniels thought enough of him to lure him away from the Patriots, and if he can unseat Hunter Renfrow for the WR2 role in this offense, there’s a lot to like about his situation in a Jimmy Garoppolo-led offense.

Jakobi Meyers’ Fantasy Outlook for the 2023 NFL Season

The Raiders return a pair of All-Pros (Josh Jacobs and Davante Adams), but there are some moving pieces around those fantasy lineup locks in Vegas.

Garoppolo is taking over for Derek Carr under center, leading to question marks about how different this offense will look. Garoppolo is known as a game-manager who is less willing to stretch the field than Carr, and those deep passes were what highlighted Adams’ first season in town.

That said, we know Adams can win at all levels, so there shouldn’t be much concern on that front. Hunter Renfrow battled injuries, so McDaniels brought in Meyers this offseason to give him stability at the slot spot … the “binky” in any Garoppolo offense.

Darren Waller was shipped off the New York, and while Vegas replaced him with Austin Hooper, O.J. Howard, and rookie Michael Mayer, it’s safe to say that the projected target share for the position entering this season will be far less than in seasons past.

Is Meyers a Good Fantasy Pick?

What came first: scrambled eggs or eggs benedict?

Exactly … not nearly as hard as the chicken or egg thing, right? We scrambled eggs, liked them, decided we wanted to upgrade, and landed on benedict. That’s how I view the acquisition of Meyers: McDaniels had Renfrow in the building last season and wanted to upgrade, so he brought in Meyers.

Benedict Meyers. Let it be written, so let it be done.

During Garoppolo’s time in San Francisco, his slot stats mirrored that of Patrick Mahomes, and if Mahomes was throwing to Meyers, would his ADP not be much higher? The draft capital isn’t overwhelming, so you don’t have to draft him as high as I have him ranked, but I’m happily adding to my WR depth by way of Meyers.
