The Philadelphia Eagles have been major players along the start of free agency with big-time signings for players like Saquon Barkley, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Bryce Huff.
Outside of the free agent moves made, the Eagles have also pushed to re-sign some of their more important players on the current roster. Landon Dickerson received the highest contract for a guard in league history with his four-year, $84 million deal.
Three days since the start of free agency, the Eagles have locked up another important piece to their organization in Pro Bowl kicker Jake Elliott.
Eagles Extend Jake Elliott to Record-Tying Deal
Philadelphia and kicker Jake Elliott agreed to terms on a four-year, $24 million early Wednesday afternoon. The agreement ties Elliott with Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker for the highest average salary of any kicker in NFL history.
In 2023, Elliott was 30-32 on field goal attempts including a staggering 7-8 on field goal attempts over 50 yards. He was also a consistent 45-46 on extra-point attempts. The 93% field goal percentage was the highest of the kicker’s career.
Elliott was a fifth-round pick selected by the Cincinnati Bengals but lost the kicking job in his rookie season to Randy Bullock. He ended up signing with the Eagles one week after the regular season began and helped Philadelphia win Super Bowl LII. His 61-yard field goal to beat the Giants the same year is still an Eagles record, and his 46-yard field goal late in the Super Bowl helped the Eagles upset the Patriots for the franchise’s first Super Bowl.
He was in the final year of his contract with the Eagles in 2024 but should be able to save the team some cap space now that the organization has extended his deal.
What’s Next for Eagles?
Elliott and Dickerson were two players that the organization was expected to lock up in the long term. While Philadelphia has plenty of cap space currently to improve its roster, there is still one more player that needs an extension on his own.
Wide receiver DeVonta Smith is entering the fourth year of his rookie deal and is expected to have his fifth-year option added on sometime this offseason. He is eligible for an extension that would make him among the highest-paid receivers in the league with a yearly annual salary of well over $20 million.
