Jahmyr Gibbs Injury Update: Will Lions RB Play in Week 5? Fantasy Impact and More

Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs popped up on the injury report Friday with a hamstring injury. Is the rookie RB now set to miss Week 5's matchup?

It hasn’t exactly been an ideal start to the year for the fantasy football managers who drafted Jahmyr Gibbs this offseason. Despite having significant draft capital attached to him, the Detroit Lions have chosen to use the dynamic RB sparingly through the first month of the season.

On top of all of this, Gibbs is at risk of missing Week 5’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers with a hamstring injury. What’s the latest news on the rookie RB, and can fantasy managers expect him to be available this week?

    Latest News Surrounding Jahmyr Gibbs

The final practice reports just trickled in from Friday, and after not being on the injury report the first several days of the week, Gibbs popped up as questionable going into Week 5 with a hamstring injury.

Fantasy managers were already moving Gibbs down the rankings, but this certainly won’t help matters, as his status for Week 5 is now uncertain. However, a late-week hamstring issue cannot be a good sign.

    Will Gibbs Play This Week?

At the time of writing, no other news has been circulated regarding when or how Gibbs suffered this hamstring injury. There were no reports of Gibbs leaving practice on a cart or anything of that nature, so there’s a strong possibility that this is just a slight hamstring tweak.

If that is the case, Gibbs could still be healthy enough to suit up and play this Sunday against the Panthers. We’ll update this frequently with new information, so make sure to check back in for the latest news.

What Does This Mean for Gibbs’ Fantasy Ranking?

If Gibbs is truly dealing with a significant hamstring injury that could affect his explosiveness, he’ll be dealing with a lack of volume and a drop-off in playmaking ability. That’s never something that fantasy managers want to rely on in their starting lineup, so there’s a possibility that you may need to bench Gibbs altogether this weekend.

We’ll need more information before we can make a definitive call on whether or not Gibbs is a trustworthy start in Week 5, but stay tuned to the PFN Consensus Rankings to see where the PFN fantasy team views the rookie RB.
