Jaguars at Saints Score: Highlights and results from tonight’s Week 2 preseason game

The Jaguars at Saints preseason Week 2 contest brought an end to this week's action -- here is the final score, some highlights, and results.

Preseason Week 2’s Monday Night Football game highlighted two teams trying to figure out their QB1 position (allegedly). With QB1 on the line, who stepped up? Here is the final score, some highlights, and results from tonight’s Jaguars at Saints game.

Jaguars vs. Saints score and results

    Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 F
    Jaguars 0 3 0 18 21
    Saints 14 3 6 0 23

There was one clear takeaway from the Jaguars vs. Saints game — Jameis Winston is QB1 for the New Orleans Saints. Winston came into this one battling with Taysom Hill for the top spot under center. However, after a 2-touchdown, 123-yard outing, it will be tough for head coach Sean Payton to argue that he shouldn’t be the guy.

Hill wasn’t terrible, finishing the game with 1 TD and 138 yards, but his throws couldn’t match what Winston was able to do. A surprising star for the Saints was Marquez Callaway, who looked like a legit WR1. His connection with Winston was the catalyst for a 5-reception, 104-yard, 2-TD performance.

For Jacksonville, Trevor Lawrence struggled. He was accurate and made some nice passes, but the offensive line was an absolute mess. This resulted in a nearly invisible run game and Lawrence taking several dangerous hits. They need to figure out the rest of the roster to ensure their rookie QB finds some success.

Jaguars and Saints highlights and updates

11:00 PM ET: Beathard is refusing to lay down against the Saints. On his next drive, he marches down the field and throws a beautiful 20-yard pass to Johnson for another TOUCHDOWN. He then completes a 2-point conversion to get the Jags within two. Beathard is 9/14 for 120 yards and 2 TDs.

10:53 PM ET: Beathard marches down the field and scores the first TOUCHDOWN for the Jaguars.

10:48 PM ET: C.J. Beathard is now in at QB for Jacksonville.

10:40 PM ET: Minshew and the Jags have yet to give up. Minshew continues to drive down the field, completing a nice 33-yard pass late in the game. Then, on the 1-yard line, Minshew was facing pressure and threw an interception in the end zone.

10:33 PM ET: Trevor Siemian is now the QB for the Saints.

10:23 PM ET: Minshew connects with Ozigbo for their longest play of the game, a 30-yard screen. This gets them close enough for a FIELD GOAL.

10:18 PM ET: After a roughing the passer penalty, Hill connects with Humphries for a TOUCHDOWN. Rosas misses the extra point.

10:15 PM ET: Hill and Montgomery continue to show some rapport, with Hill completing another deep ball to Montgomery. The Saints are now in field goal range.

10:05 PM ET: The Saints drive ends with a punt. Hill threw what looked like an interception, but it was not called on the field. Urban Meyer did not bother challenging the decision.

10:00 PM ET: Minshew moves the ball downfield with short, quick passes. He is currently 3/3 for 14 yards. On a fourth and three, the Jags fail to convert. Saints take over with good field position.

9:50 PM ET: Minshew is starting the second half as the starter for Jacksonville.

9:34 PM ET: Hill completes two big passes to Montgomery for a total of 33 yards. Before halftime, the Saints nail a 52-yard FIELD GOAL by Rosas.

9:30 PM ET: With less than a minute left on a third and 10, Lawrence takes a big sack. Lambo then misses a 43-yard field goal attempt. The game remains 14-3 for the Saints.

9:25 PM ET: Lawrence is working in the two-minute offense. The Jaguars have moved the ball down the field and took advantage of some poor secondary play to complete an 18-yard pass to TE Luke Farrell. Lawrence is now 14/22 for 113 yards.

9:15 PM ET: Hill is now starting to get it going with the offense. He connects on two big passes, both for 25 yards, with Humphries. However, the drive ends with a punt.

9:05 PM ET: Lawrence takes the offense and puts it on his back for a huge 9-yard gain for the first down. He now has more rushing yards than all the running backs on the team. He takes a huge hit at the end of the play. Unfortunately, the drive ends with just a 34-yard FIELD GOAL from Josh Lambo.

9:00 PM ET: The Jaguars finally get their first first down of the night. Lawrence is currently 7/11 for 48 yards. Marvin Jones Jr. caught Lawrence’s pass for the first down.

8:55 PM ET: The Jaguars are finally able to stop the Saints with a big sack on Hill. The next Jaguars’ drive results in a punt. Lawrence is struggling to throw the ball with pressure constantly on him.

8:45 PM ET: After another three and out, the Jaguars punt again. This once again sets us the Saints with excellent field position. Taysom Hill is now in at QB.

8:40 PM ET: Winston and Callaway connect for another TOUCHDOWN. This one was a one-handed catch in the end zone for 37 yards. Callaway now has 104 yards and two touchdowns on 5 receptions. Winston is 9/10 for 123 yards and 2 TDs. The QB competition has just become interesting!

8:37 PM ET: Winston and Callaway continue to work on their connection. Winston hits Callaway for a 14-yard catch. We are also informed that TE Adam Trautman was injured and left on a cart. That could be huge for the Saints, who had high hoped for Trautman this year.

8:30 PM ET: The Saints’ second drive is less promising than the first. A false start penalty brings them back 10 yards and forces a three and out. Lawrence is back out with the starting offense. The drive ends with another punt.

8:19 PM ET: Trevor Lawrence’s first drive ends with a three-and-out. Lawrence did not have much time to get set in the pocket with a number of offensive linemen out. Jaguars punt and the Saints get great field position at midfield.

8:15 PM ET: This one starts off with a BANG! After a few good runs and short passes, Winston connects with WR Marquez Callaway for a 43-yard TOUCHDOWN catch. Callaway caught the ball as he fell to the ground behind two Jaguar defenders.

8:10 PM ET: Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill prepare to start with the ball after the opening kickoff. Winston will be the starter.
