Jaguars vs. Jets Prediction
The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the hottest teams in football right now. Trevor Lawrence is playing at an incredible level as he’s trying to will his team into the 2022 postseason.
It’s truly remarkable that just one year removed from the Urban Meyer catastrophe, Doug Pederson and Lawrence have steadied this ship and now have a legitimate chance of winning the AFC South and making some noise in the NFL Playoffs.
The Jaguars have not only won three out of their last four games but have put up upwards of 28 points on the board in every single one of those victories. In Week 15, Lawrence led the Jaguars to a victory over the postseason-bound Dallas Cowboys with a performance that included 318 yards and four touchdowns with just one interception.
They’re playing remarkably well recently, and they’ll need that to continue this week against a tough Jets defense as they look to take over the AFC South. Tennessee has now lost four straight games, and Jacksonville can put itself in an incredible position to make the postseason with a win this week.
The Jets are a tough opponent, though, as they’re allowing just the 4th fewest points per game this season. It’ll be an incredible matchup to watch Lawrence and this hot Jaguars offense go up against one of the better defenses that the league has to offer.
On the other side of the ball, the Jets have now dropped to 7-7 on the season with a close loss in Week 15 against the Detroit Lions. With Mike White banged up, the Jets turned back to Zach Wilson, and he had one of his best statistical performances of the season, but it wasn’t enough to get the team to 8 wins on the season.
Now the Jets are fighting for their playoff lives as they sit on the outside looking in as it relates to the AFC Playoff picture. With Miami, the Chargers, and the Ravens all still above them in the win column, the Jets need to secure a win this week against Jacksonville to remain in the hunt.
Unfortunately for New York, White is going to most likely remain sidelined this week, and we’ll see Wilson back again as the starting QB. While he had some attention-grabbing throws in Week 15, he also showed the propensity for unwise decisions that got him benched in the first place.
The key for New York winning this matchup all rides on the shoulders of their former No. 2 overall selection. If Wilson can look sharp and accurate with the football, eliminate the unnecessary turnovers, and take advantage of a defense that’s allowing the 12th most points per game this season, the rest of the team is solid enough to secure a victory.
However, if the former BYU QB continues to throw the ball directly to the defense, there’s not much hope left for them to secure one of the final wildcard spots in the AFC.
