Isaac Guerendo Injury Update: Latest on 49ers RB After Exiting Game vs. Bears in Week 14

    Published on

Isaac Guerendo suffered a foot injury late in Week 14. What's the latest on the 49ers' rookie running back?

San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo left during the fourth quarter of the team’s Week 14 game vs. the Chicago Bears.

Below are the latest updates on Guerendo’s status.

    What Happened to Isaac Guerendo?

Guerendo didn’t suffer any clear injury on a play but walked off the field to the locker room in the fourth quarter. The team declared him questionable to return. His final play was a six-yard run on first down with 10:45 remaining in regulation.

Guerendo had a massive game in his first contest as the 49ers’ unquestioned lead running back. He had 78 rushing yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns, as well as two catches for 50 yards through the air at the time of his departure.

Last week, Christian McCaffrey (sprained PCL) and Jordan Mason (ankle) both went down against the Buffalo Bills, leading to both ending up on injured reserve. Neither is eligible to return until Week 18, and McCaffrey is almost certainly done for the season.

After Sunday’s win, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Guerendo might have sprained his foot. The rookie back will undergo an MRI on Monday. With a short turnaround to a Thursday Night Football game vs. the Los Angeles Rams, Guerendo could be hard-pressed to make it back for that game.

Fantasy Impact if Guerendo Is Out

The 49ers run game has been a mess this season health-wise, and this doesn’t help. The one-sided nature of the game has us hoping that this isn’t serious as San Francisco looks to remain competitive down the stretch, but Patrick Taylor Jr. is the priority add.

The team tried to get Deebo Samuel Sr. going on the ground a bit, and that should be the expectation moving forward. Taylor will be a Flex option should he hold the bell-cow role while the three primary pass catchers (George Kittle, Samuel, and Jauan Jennings) all remain viable options in PPR starting lineups.
