“Unretirement? Who Would Be Dumb Enough To Do That?” — Tom Brady Joins Hilarious UnRetire Campaign

Is Tom Brady unretiring? The Lay's latest advertisement suggests the return of the GOAT could be a possibility. A brilliant marketing strategy.

Is Tom Brady returning to the NFL again? The quarterback most believe to be the greatest of all time famously retired before, only to pick up his playing career again a few months later. Is Brady considering returning under center again?

Lay’s and Pepsi unveiled their latest marketing campaign based on former NFL greats unretiring and returning to the game they love. The first iteration was Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice, Dan Marino, and Randy Moss sitting around a table, eating Lay’s chips and drinking ice-cold Pepsi.

Lay’s New ‘UnRetire’ Campaign Starring Dan Marino, Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice, and Randy Moss

Legendary Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame RB Emmitt Smith says, “Man, I wish I was out there.”

Miami Dolphins Hall of Fame QB and star of “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” Dan Marino replies, “Let’s unretire.”

The pleased Smith agrees, “Why not?”

“Guess Who’s Back, Back Again” plays, a familiar refrain of Eminem closes the scene as the Hall of Famers place their jerseys on, we assume, to again return to the gridiron.

Lay’s Latest Spot Starring Tom Brady and Julian Edelman

The scene begins with Brady and Edelman, legendary New England Patriots teammates, enjoying the life of luxury, kicking back, and enjoying their retirement. Oh, so they seem.

The scene quickly turns sharply with one question from Brady and one scintillating chip bite from Edelman.

“Unretirement? Who’d be dumb enough to do that?”

Following Edelman’s rattling chip bite, Brady shrugs his shoulders innocently as if we haven’t been down this path before.

    Could Tom Brady Unretire?

Brady is asked this question repeatedly and has remained consistent and steadfast in his answer: No.

Brady likely gets the itch to return to the NFL. How could he not? He’s the greatest QB ever, and his teams won at the highest level of competitive sport.

Brady likely thinks to himself that he still has it. Most players decline as they age, but Brady stood the test of time and gave Father Time the battle of his life. Winning Super Bowls into his 40s is unheard of and may never happen again.

Brady didn’t go out the way he wanted last season, but winning a Super Bowl with Tampa Bay proved he was the ultimate competitor. He didn’t need the Patriots organization to win the ultimate prize.

The commercial is fun and raises the question many football fans have, but we’ve seen the last of Tom Brady on an NFL football field.
