After being named the starting quarterback for the regular season, it’s back to business as usual for the young quarterback as preseason Game 2 approaches. How likely is it that we will see Sam Howell play in the Washington Commanders‘ second preseason contest? With the Commanders taking on the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night, here is all we know about Howell’s chances of suiting up.
Will Sam Howell Play in Second Preseason Game?
All indications point to the Commanders’ starting Howell against the Ravens to give him added game action ahead of the regular season. Fresh off being named QB1, it looks as if head coach Ron Rivera and staff want to give as many opportunities to Howell as they can before Week 1 kicks off.
Just how long Howell will go on Monday night remains to be seen, but the Commanders are looking to get their new starting quarterback as much live reps as possible before the real thing kicks off in just under three weeks from now.

Who Else Will Play With Sam Howell?
The Commanders currently have three quarterbacks on the roster at the moment. With Howell officially being named the team’s Week 1 starter, the backup quarterback looks to be manned by NFL veteran Jacoby Brissett.
Brissett is entering Year 8 in the NFL, with the Commanders being his fifth NFL team during his career so far. On Monday night, Brissett will be in Howell’s ear and be a mentor to the young QB as well as being ready to play at a moment’s notice.
The third and final quarterback on Washington’s roster is national champion and former Georgia Bulldog QB Jake Fromm. Fromm was drafted in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. In 2021, he was reassigned to the team’s practice squad. However, that November, he was signed off the practice squad by the New York Giants, whom he would appear in three games for that season.
Outside of those three games, Fromm doesn’t have much experience to speak of and will take any opportunity he can get in the preseason to develop and show his coaching staff that he belongs on the Commanders’ roster moving forward.
