Is Romeo Doubs Playing? Analyzing the Latest Injury News Ahead of Week 5

Will Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs be playing in Week 5 of the fantasy football season? If he doesn't, who steps up?

Will Romeo Doubs be playing for your fantasy football team in Week 5? Doubs missed the Green Bay Packers’ practices on Thursday and Friday, and his status is up in the air for the team’s bout against the Los Angeles Rams. Here’s where he stands.

Will Romeo Doubs Be Active in Week 5?

Saturday Update: Doubs is out for Week 5. The Packers suspended Doubs for one week due to conduct detrimental to the team.

Doubs is currently deemed doubtful to suit up for the Packers in Week 5 against the Rams. However, it’s not because of any injury. Rather, Doubs sat out Green Bay’s practices on Thursday and Friday due to frustrations with his opportunities in the passing game.

The Packers’ WR3’s “holdout” comes at a perplexing time, as starting WR Christian Watson was set to miss the team’s Week 5 contest with his own injury. Doubs would have been in line for an increased workload — and even then, Jordan Love’s absence is a reasonable explanation for Doubs’ downturn in production.

Nevertheless, Doubs is holding strong, for better or worse, and it seems likely that the Packers will go on without him this week against the Rams.

The Packers have already proven this season that they can rely on the running game when needed. Josh Jacobs and Emanuel Wilson have favor with the team, and Malik Willis has also proven he can be implemented in multiple phases.

Potential Fantasy Options If Doubs Is Out Include Dontayvion Wicks, Tucker Kraft

Jayden Reed was already a must-start in fantasy football on account of his league-pacing production and schematic versatility alone. But assuming Doubs’ holdout stretches past Sunday, Reed could take home an even greater volume from a quarterback in Love who trusts him indiscriminately.

Reed is the top fantasy option in this outing, bar none. That said, rotational WR Dontayvion Wicks also figures to see a big uptick in targets if the Packers find themselves in a shootout against the susceptible Rams’ passing defense.

Reed and Wicks will be the Packers’ primary wide receivers with Watson and Doubs unavailable. Former Rutgers standout Bo Melton is also a deep sleeper to consider in larger leagues. He has the elite speed and explosiveness to potentially capitalize on limited targets.

Beyond the WR position, tight end Tucker Kraft is a definite buy this week with Doubs’ likely absence. Last week against the Vikings, Kraft hauled in six catches for 53 yards and a score on a season-high nine targets. He’s a reliable run-after-catch and red-zone threat, and he may be relied upon even more in this game.

Having said all this, one of the Rams’ best defensive elements is their pass rush. Thus, there’s a chance Matt LaFleur decides to play ball control offense and relies more on his multifaceted ground game against Los Angeles’ lighter front. Thus, Jacobs and Wilson also bear heavy consideration.
