Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are currently 6-1 and in first place in the AFC West. While they have a comfortable three-game lead in their division heading into Week 8, the pursuit of a seventh straight win of the season just got a little bit harder due to the flu.
Early Sunday morning, it had been reported that Mahomes had a fever spike as a side effect of him dealing with the flu heading into their Week 8 matchup. Anything that pops up on the day of a game is not an ideal situation for anyone involved, and as a result, some are wondering if it may affect Mahomes’ availability for today’s game.
Let’s take a closer look at Mahomes and the flu situation he is dealing with to see if he’ll be suiting up this afternoon.
Is Patrick Mahomes Playing in Week 8?
Despite the information that Mahomes is feeling under the weather and is battling through an illness, the feeling around the team is that they fully expect him to be out there playing for the Chiefs today.
Mahomes spiked a fever last night with this flu he’s battling. There is no doubt from the Chiefs that he’s playing today. https://t.co/4cUmxruH4m

According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, Mahomes had a fever spike last night, and it looks to still be affecting him this morning in the lead-up to the game. Despite that, the feeling is that Mahomes and his availability are not in doubt, and Kansas City fully expects him to be out there today.

It’s good to see Mahomes being able to grit it out and be on the field for his team this week. However, it’s something worth monitoring, as an illness that produces a fever is sure to affect the QB and his play on the field.
This could be Mahomes’ ode to Michael Jordan and his own version of a “flu game.” Only time will tell if it will be as legendary as the NBA player’s great performance.
Chiefs Are Rolling in 2023
While this looks to be slowing Mahomes down a bit, it looks to be the only thing that is slowing the Chiefs down as of late. After losing the first game of the season, Kansas City has won six straight games. They’re rolling right now and look once again like they are the clash of the AFC.
The only question that remains is, can an illness to their star QB slow them down here in Week 8? For the last month and a half, it seems other teams have not been able to do so.
