Unlike a few teams, the Arizona Cardinals are among the lucky ones who decided not to play most of their starters in the preseason matchups while giving young guns like Marvin Harrison Jr. a chance to show off their abilities.
However, this strategy has yet to work for the Cardinals, as the team has lost both of its preseason matchups. They first faced a 16-14 loss against the New Orleans Saints in Week 1 and later faced the Indianapolis Colts in a 21-13 matchup.
Is Kyler Murray Playing Today Against the Denver Broncos in Week 3?
Even though things are not going as planned for the Cardinals, Murray’s fate for the series was already written before Week 1, and coach Jonathan Gannon will not be making any changes in that regard.
Murray is currently healthy and ready to play, but coach Gannon made it clear that he will miss all three preseason matchups before Week 1 to avoid any injuries before the regular season in September.
Gannon reaffirmed his confidence in the Cardinals’ star quarterback a week before the preseason game and said that he likes where Murray is right now. He expressed that the offense is operating well currently and that Murray will do everything that needs to be done before their first game on Sept. 23 against the Detroit Lions.
The Cardinals head coach also praised Murray’s commitment and leadership. He said that Murray’s will to win is extremely high, and he is always 1,000 percent willing to improve himself, the offense, and the team.
A look at Kyler Murray’s contract with the Arizona Cardinals
Kyler Murray’s contract with the Arizona Cardinals got even more lucrative in 2024, owing to his spot on the team’s roster in March.
By sticking with the team, Murray has enabled a clause in his deal that guarantees him an additional $29.9 million for 2025. This bonus is in addition to the $35.3 million already guaranteed for this season, part of the blockbuster contract he signed in July 2022.
The star QB missed the first half of the 2023 season recovering from a torn ACL and meniscus, leaving the Cardinals juggling between Joshua Dobbs and Clayton Tune as starters.
Thanks to Gannon’s constant reassurance, fans would be placing their bets on Murray to lead the Cardinals to a playoff spot in the 2024 season.
