Is Kyler Murray Playing Sunday? Latest Injury Update and News for Cardinals QB

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has been out since suffering an ACL tear late last season. Can we expect his return soon?

After tearing his ACL in Week 14 of last season, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray missed the final four games of the 2022 season and the first nine games of this season.

The quarterback has been on the road to recovery for nearly a year now — will he be making his return soon?

Will Kyler Murray Start in Week 10?

The Arizona Cardinals will be activating Murray from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list this week.

On Monday, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon told reporters that Murray will practice with the starters and play Sunday, barring any setbacks.

The Cardinals are currently 1-8 and have the worst record in the NFL, with no chance to make the playoffs. They will face the 4-5 Falcons on Sunday afternoon.

In Murray’s place, Arizona has started Joshua Dobbs and Clayton Tune. Dobbs held the starting role before he was traded to the Minnesota Vikings last week ahead of the trade deadline.

During his time with the Cardinals — through the first eight weeks of the season — Dobbs completed 62.8% of his passes for 1,569 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions. He went on to have his best performance of the season with the Vikings as he led the team to a 31-28 win over the Falcons.

Tune made his first NFL start with the Cardinals in a shutout 27-0 loss to the Browns last Sunday. He completed 11 of 20 passes for 58 yards with two interceptions.

Murray, a two-time Pro Bowler, completed 66.4% of his pass attempts for 2,368 yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions before suffering the season-ending injury in 2022.

The Cardinals are in desperate need of an answer at the quarterback position, especially after what we saw from Tune last week. It will be interesting to see how Murray is able to perform in his return after missing an extended period of time.

“It’s fun to be around him at practice,” Gannon said. “He’s ultra-competitive and wants to play football, but everything that he’s been doing up until this point to get himself ready to go both on and off the field, rehab with the health stuff, with the mental stuff about playing quarterback, he’s far exceeded my expectations right now.”

Should Murray be unable to play Sunday, Gannon confirmed that Tune would get the start again.
