Former Chicago quarterback Justin Fields was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in March of 2024. Fields made his preseason debut for the Steelers against Houston on Aug. 10, and while he made some impressive plays, he fumbled twice during the game, causing a few rumbles for Steeler Nation.
With the news of Russell Wilson’s recovery, will Fields play in the preseason Week 2 clash against the Buffalo Bills?
Is Justin Fields Taking Snaps vs. the Bills?
Fields had a bit of a tough start to his career with the Steelers. Even though he went 5-for-6 for 67 yards, he fumbled twice and was also sacked twice in the 20-12 loss against the Texans.
The Steelers recovered both incidents, but the fumbles didn’t leave a good taste in head coach Mike Tomlin’s mouth. He said that he expects Fields to handle the ball better in future games.
Tomlin addressed the performance, and while he appreciated seeing “some nice things,” he expressed his disappointment with the fumbles and said that they “negated” everything else.
Fortunately, the Steelers have a deep quarterback room. Fields is talented and will work on ball security. The team still has Wilson, who was kept out of the final days of camp.
In the 13 games he played last season for the Bears, Fields fumbled the ball three times total, losing one.
After missing the first preseason game due to a calf injury, Wilson will get on the field on Saturday.
Tomlin said the former Seattle Seahawks star has been participating fully during practice and has had a good couple of days.
Although Wilson will start for the Steelers in the matchup against the Bills, Fields will get playing time. Despite his not-so-impressive start to the preseason, Fields has the talent to turn things around in the coming games.
Fields threw for 2,562 yards while scoring 16 touchdowns and throwing nine interceptions in the 13 games he started for the Bears last season.
