Is James Conner playing tonight vs. the Colts? Latest injury update on Cardinals RB

James Conner has been dealing with an ankle/heel injury -- will he be available for fantasy football managers in Week 16?

James Conner played through an ankle issue in last week’s game. However, it has been reported he’s now having a heel issue. What is his status ahead of tonight’s game against the Colts? After being a steal all season for whoever was able to get him, will Conner be available for fantasy football rosters with his ankle/heel injury? Furthermore, we’ll dive into Conner’s performance so far this season.

Update 12/25/21: Surprisingly, after reports came out earlier today that James Conner was expected to play, he is officially out against the Colts.

Is James Conner playing tonight vs. the Colts?

Currently, it looks like the Arizona Cardinals will be without Conner for their Christmas Day matchup with the Colts. The running back has missed practice on both Tuesday and Wednesday this week with a heel issue, an injury which there is little detail about right now. As a result, barring any sudden U-turns on the day, I’d expect he’ll be out.

Conner has found a new home in Arizona, and he’s not yet missed a game this season.

A Pro Bowl performance in a bounce-back year?

Conner was cast aside by the Pittsburgh Steelers after a tough couple of seasons and issues staying healthy. He landed with the Cardinals, who signed him to a one-year deal worth $1.75M. What they got in return was 16 touchdowns, with heavy contribution in both the running and passing game. Ultimately, they got a Pro Bowler.

Conner was announced to his second Pro Bowl and is one of the most deserving players on the list, bouncing back in a major way in Arizona.

Conner and the Cardinals seem to have found an arrangement that works well for all parties. He is not a high-volume, 1,200-yard-season running back. Nonetheless, he doesn’t need to be. Conner has 187 carries this season for 700 yards. Compare that to Jonathan Taylor, who has 270 carries for 1,518 yards. Yes, the yardage is higher, but Arizona doesn’t need Conner to be that guy.

It’s a great fit. And hopefully, it continues as the Cardinals improve and become one of the more interesting teams in the NFL.
