Dak Prescott’s shoulder has been a massive argumentative piece over the past few weeks, but is he playing in the Week 2 preseason game against the Houston Texans? The Dallas Cowboys have been very conservative in regards to his injury. Unfortunately, sometimes Prescott needs to be saved from himself. He’s an obsessive worker, and he’ll overdo it if they don’t take the keys from him.
Dak Prescott’s injury update on ankle and shoulder
The ankle is fine and has been fine for some time now. The second ankle surgery caused mass hysteria between Cowboys Nation. It turned out we all worried way too much. But that wasn’t the end of our pessimistic injury outlook.
No, when Prescott felt a little shoulder tightness early in Oxnard, California, the world once again stopped spinning for Cowboys fans. But a second MRI proved there is no structural damage. Still, the Cowboys’ coaching staff knows that Prescott is on a mission, and he’d work to the bone to get there.
Prescott needs a pitch count. And, kudos to him for actually admitting he felt some soreness in his shoulder because that simple strain could have been much worse.
Is Dak Prescott playing tonight?
Prescott won’t play against the Texans, and he certainly won’t play against the Jaguars in Week 3 of the preseason. We’ve spent the past few weeks arguing whether the sixth-year quarterback needs preseason reps after missing most of the 2020 NFL season.
With Prescott’s limited participation in practice, he was never going to play in the preseason. If his shoulder never tightened up, he probably plays a few series. There’s a chance he and the Cowboys’ offense will be a little rusty to begin the season, especially against the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Nevertheless, rust is a whole lot better than getting injured in a couple of meaningless preseason drives.
