The Houston Texans were big underdogs in the Divisional Round against the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Texans didn’t have much margin for error if they hoped to pull of an upset, and the significant pressure that C.J. Stroud took throughout the game was too much for Houston’s quarterback.k
After getting banged up in the first quarter, what’s the latest on the second-year passer now that he’s left the game in the fourth quarter?
What Happened to C.J. Stroud?
Stroud initially got hurt scrambling on 3rd-and-10 from the Chiefs’ 14-yard line on the opening drive. He only gained two yards to set up a field goal, but worse he game up gimpy after being tackled around his ankles.
Here’s the play where Texans QB CJ Stroud apparently tweaked his ankle.
The tackle by Chiefs DE George Karlaftis stopped the offense just short of a first down.
Hoping it’s nothing serious 🙏

Stroud received attention on the sidelines from medical personnel after the drive. Although he hobbled off, it was a good sign that he didn’t need to enter the blue medical tent.

However, Stroud continued to take a beating throughout the game, with the Chiefs recording eight sacks, one shy of the NFL playoff record. On the eighth and final sack, Stroud had to be helped off the field by trainers.
Throughout the game, Stroud was noticeably limping throughout, likely as a result of his initial injury. It’s not clear what the nature of his current leg/ankle injury is, but he’ll have plenty of time to heal with the offseason here for Houston.
KARLAFTIS AGAIN. His 3rd sack of the game and KC’s 8th!

Overall, the season has been a struggle for the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year. Stroud ranked 27th in QB+ with a 67.8 grade after ranking eighth with a 81.9 grade as a rookie.
