Is Breece Hall Going To Play Week 2?

Despite being on a snap count on Monday Night Football due to his ongoing knee injury, Hall looked impressive. Hall racked up 147 scrimmage yards on just 11 touches in the Jets’ win versus the Buffalo Bills in Week 1.

Hall was a limited participant in practice this week on Wednesday and Thursday. However, Hall practiced in full on Friday, giving fantasy managers renewed optimism that he would play today versus the Dallas Cowboys.

At the time of writing, no update on his questionable status has been published by the Jets or the national media, but it is likely that Hall will play today based on his practice availability.

Update: Hall is active for Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys.

What Does This Mean for Hall’s Fantasy Ranking?

While Hall was incredible on Monday Night Football, fantasy managers should take his usage into account, as well as today’s opponents.

Hall only played 30% of the snaps in Week 1, with Dalvin Cook playing 52% of the snaps.

While Hall practiced in full on Friday and is another week removed from the initial injury, do not expect Hall to have the elite usage that he had for most of last season. He might see an increase in snaps this week. However, I highly doubt he will play more snaps than Cook this week.

Hall is currently RB26 in the PFN Consensus Rankings. While he has the talent to finish much higher, as he showed on Monday night, he might struggle to see the same opportunities as he did to break off large plays. That is because he faces the No. 1-ranked defense in the NFL currently, the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys held the New York Giants to just 218 yards on Sunday Night Football. And while 108 yards were given up on the ground, 43 of those yards were made by Daniel Jones either scrambling or on designed plays. Saquon Barkley was held to just 51 yards rushing on 12 carries; the supporting cast of running backs racked up just 14 yards rushing.

Hall is going to struggle to break 100 yards rushing on just 10-12 carries. Therefore, there is some caution when it comes to starting him this week. However, as was evident against the Bills, Hall has the talent to find a hole and create big plays either on the ground or in the passing game.

It also remains to be seen which back out of Hall and Cook will be used inside the 10-yard line. That is because the Jets didn’t manage a single rushing play inside the 10-yard line last week. If Hall is the one given the ball in these situations today, his outlook and upside will be slightly rosier.

However, it must be said that if you are a fantasy manager who is rostering Hall, you have to start him this week. There would be nothing worse than having him sit on your bench and put up another 140+ yards from scrimmage again.
