As rumors are swirling that Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid could soon be retiring, a reporter dispelled the rumors and said nobody has suggested that he is retiring from the NFL.
Andy Reid Retirement Rumors
FOX Sports’ Craig Carton is boldly predicting that Bill Belichick will become the next head coach of the Chiefs after Reid’s retirement.
“I think Bill Belichick will be the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs next year,” Carton said. “I think that’s where he goes after Andy Reid retires after this year, which apparently there’s some smoke around him retiring.”
On ESPN’s “Get Up” on Thursday, Adam Schefter speculated that the reason the Atlanta Falcons didn’t hire Bill Belichick was because he’s holding out to be Reid’s successor in Kansas City. The Falcons hired Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as their head coach on Thursday.
“If the Chiefs were to win the Super Bowl this year, could that, would that make [Reid] more likely to walk?” Schefter said. “And if he did walk, at that point in time, and you’re the Kansas City Chiefs, and Bill Belichick were still sitting out there, would that not be an interesting possibility, if that’s what Andy Reid decided to do? To go take a run at arguably the greatest coach of all time and to replace one legend with another?”
Schefter emphasized that it’s purely speculation and that he doesn’t have any sources telling him Reid is ready to walk away.
“Again, we’re having fun,” he said. “We’re throwing things out there.”
CBS Sports lead NFL reporter Tracy Wolfson shut down speculation, saying that based on what her sources have told her, she “would be very surprised if Reid retired,” especially with two years remaining on his contract.

Additionally, Nate Taylor, a Chiefs beat writer for the Athletic, also shut down the Reid retirement rumors.
“There is no one in the Chiefs organization who has suggested anything of Andy Reid potentially retiring,” Taylor said. “So, it would be a shock to me; I know it would be a shock to many people in the organization if that is a decision that Andy Reid ultimately makes.
“Whether it’s next week if the Chiefs lose to the Ravens or if it’s a couple weeks following the postseason with the Super Bowl — but no, I think Andy Reid is a football lifer. He’s got the best quarterback in the league, he’s got a roster full of talented and particularly young players … I still expect him to be the coach of the Kansas City Chiefs when they enter the 2024 season.”
Reid is 65 and is looking for his third Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs. With Pete Carroll and Belichick without a head coaching job, Reid is now the oldest active head coach in the NFL.
Reid shut down retirement rumors when asked about it by reporters before the Chiefs’ Wild Card Weekend victory over the Miami Dolphins, according to Arrowhead Report’s Jordan Foote.
“I haven’t even thought about that,” Reid said. “I’m thinking about one thing. I figured that would come up when you guys were asking these questions because I’m old — but not that old.”
