Is Amon-Ra St. Brown Going To Play Week 3?

Things did not look good on Wednesday when St. Brown did not practice due to a toe injury. However, he managed to practice in a limited capacity on Thursday and then practice in full on Friday.

When speaking to the media on Friday, St. Brown said he is not dealing with a turf toe injury as many speculated. Instead, he said the injury was “two bones kind of hit each other. I got lucky.”

He then went on to say he was going to play on Sunday with a steel plate in his shoe to make sure the injured toe doesn’t bend too much. “Yeah, I’m going to play with that,” St. Brown said. “I had one in high school, I used to play with one all the time, so I’m used to it.”

Therefore, since it appears St. Brown will play in Week 3, let’s take a look at what his fantasy outlook will be vs. the Falcons.

What Does This Mean for St. Brown’s Fantasy Outlook?

St. Brown comes into this week as the WR15 in PPR scoring. According to the PFN Consensus Rankings, St. Brown is currently the WR6 in Week 3.

St. Brown ran 100% of the routes in Week 1. However, he only ran 72% of the routes in Week 2, when the Lions lost to the Seattle Seahawks. However, despite having run fewer routes and seeing fewer targets in Week 2, he managed the same number of receptions (six) and more receiving yards (102).

This week, his opponent is the Falcons. The Falcons have given up a whopping 19 passing first downs in the first two weeks of the season. They have also given up four passing touchdowns, including three to the Green Bay Packers last week.

The Lions will be the best passing attack the Falcons have faced this season. And, against Dee Alford in the slot, St. Brown should have some success. Alford is only giving up 0.29 fantasy points per route run against him so far this season. However, he has yet to face the caliber of receiver that St. Brown is. St. Brown is managing 0.52 fantasy points per route ran so far in 2023. And I expect him to achieve a similar number today.

Therefore, St. Brown is a must-start this week. He has the opportunity to put up big numbers and manage a WR1 week. As long as he is not held back by the injury, which is not what I expect, St. Brown should be finishing in the top 10 of receivers for PPR scoring in Week 3.
