Is Alvin Kamara Playing Today? Latest Injury Update Surrounding Saints RB

The New Orleans Saints host the Tennessee Titans in the preseason finale -- will RB Alvin Kamara play?

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been nursing back tightness, which kept him out of last Sunday’s preseason clash against the San Francisco 49ers. With Kamara eyeing a new contract, this injury comes at a tricky time.

Head coach Dennis Allen has also chosen to remain tight-lipped on Kamara’s recovery from injury. The Saints will undoubtedly follow a cautious approach with their star running back heading into today’s matchup with the Tennessee Titans.

The question remains: Will Kamara play today?

Will Alvin Kamara Play Against the Tennessee Titans?

The Saints are looking a bit lean on their running back depth against the Titans, with Kamara nursing his back injury. He’s been sidelined since Aug. 13 due to back tightness, and though his recent return to practice is a positive sign, he’s not fit enough to feature in Sunday’s game

As Kamara takes his time to heal, Allen has been clear about his RB’s role as the focal point of the Saints’ offensive system. The 29-year-old has struggled recently, given his past injury struggles and suspension last year.

In 2022, fans didn’t see enough of Kamara in the passing game, but the RB still boasted impressive stats with 86 targets and 75 receptions. One area where the former Alabama star failed to capitalize was connecting with quarterback Derek Carr to create explosive plays.

However, under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, this may change in the 2024 season, with Allen envisioning a more innovative approach with Kamara.

“This system that we’re going to operate in, I think, is going to really benefit him,” Allen told Kay Adams. “I envision him having a tone of success running the football, catching the football out of the backfield.”

Kamara has always had the dual-threat ability, which has been his calling card. Allen is counting on it while working to improve the chemistry between Kamara and Carr. There have been rumors about Kamara’s absence being linked to contract negotiations, but Allen denied any such connection, saying that his absence is purely because of the back injury.
