Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers continues to deal with a highly discussed toe injury. He suffered the injury a few weeks ago, and there was some speculation that he could need surgery to fix it. That hasn’t been the case so far, although he wouldn’t be expected to miss much time if he did ultimately get surgery. With that said, is Rodgers playing in Week 14, and what should fantasy football managers do if he were to miss time?
Update 12/12/21: According to the Packers, QB Aaron Rodgers is active despite his toe injury. He will start against the Bears on Sunday Night Football.
Aaron Rodgers’ toe injury practice routine
Rodgers has stuck with the same weekly practice routine since injuring his toe. He does not participate on Wednesday and Thursday before getting in a limited practice on Friday. This has been the star quarterback’s routine since Week 11, and this is the exact same routine he’s followed this week.
Rodgers’ game production with the injury
Rodgers has played two games with his toe injury thus far. He posted 385 yards and 4 touchdowns on 33 pass attempts against the Minnesota Vikings. One key in that game is that he also ran for 21 yards on 2 attempts.
Rodgers then threw for 307 yards and 2 touchdowns on 45 pass attempts against the Los Angeles Rams. He ran for a touchdown in that game as well. He’s playing at arguably the highest level he’s seen at any point in this season, and his injury doesn’t seem to have negatively impacted him on game day.
What should we expect if he misses this game?
If Rodgers were to miss this game, Jordan Love would be in line for his second career start.
Love completed 19 of 34 pass attempts against the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this season. He totaled 190 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception in that game. Love also added 23 yards on 5 carries that week.
Although he flashed at times, Love struggled to consistently sustain any offense against Kansas City. It’s unlikely that he’d find much more success against the Chicago Bears this weekend.
Nevertheless, Love comes with enough pure upside to be considered a fantasy football option, although he’s one of the riskiest options on the entire slate. Fantasy managers must also keep in mind that the Packers will take on the Bears on Sunday Night Football. Thus, if Rodgers is declared inactive, Love could be managers’ best option for a spot start.
Will Rodgers play in Week 14?
With all that said, Rodgers will play this week. He’s been dealing with this same toe injury for weeks, and it hasn’t slowed down his play in any way. Rodgers stated that he’ll continue to play weekly for Green Bay. He also believes there is a chance that he could get surgery without missing any time.
This is an important intradivisional matchup against Chicago, which is the type of game Rodgers generally thrives in. He’s playing at an elite level in terms of fantasy and real-life football. He can be used in all fantasy formats once again this weekend.
