If the Chiefs 3-Peat, Will They Surpass the Patriots’ Dynasty? Veteran NFL Reporter Makes Feelings Known

According to one veteran NFL reporter, the Kansas City Chiefs are on the cusp of surpassing the New England Patriots as the greatest dynasty ever.

The Kansas City Chiefs have already cemented themselves as one of the greatest dynasties in NFL history. They have the most Super Bowl appearances over a six-year stretch out of any team (5). Only the Steel Curtain Pittsburgh Steelers came close, winning and appearing in four out of six Super Bowls.

But for the totality of the Super Bowl era, the nearly 20-year run by the New England Patriots is recognized by most as the greatest dynasty in the sport. Not only did it bring six Super Bowl victories (the most all-time), but it cemented both Tom Brady and Bill Belichick as the greatest quarterback and head coach of all time, respectively.

However, with a victory in Super Bowl 59, the Chiefs can achieve something that the Patriots never did: a three-peat. Does that put them over the top?

Author of Philly Special Claims Kansas City Chiefs Can Surpass New England Patriots

Sal Paolantonio is among the most respected journalists to walk the NFL circuit. The author of the “Philly Special: How the Philadelphia Eagles won their first Super Bowl Championship” has been a staple of the league for quite a while now.

With his experience and acumen, Paolantonio’s voice carries a lot of weight. So, it was a true shock to see him admit that Kansas City was on the cusp of history. Not only were they aiming for the first-ever three-peat of the Super Bowl era, but according to Paolantonio, they could cement themselves as the greatest dynasty in league history.

When asked about the existence of back-to-back dynasties in a league predicated on parity, Paolantonio had a far different take. Giving PFSN his honest assessment, he believed that the two men at the center of the entire operation would overtake Belichick and Brady as the GOATs.

“I’m a believer in if you want to be the best, you gotta beat the best. To me, if they pull off this three-peat, [Andy] Reid and Patrick [Mahomes] together supplant Brady and Belichick.”

Paolantonio wasn’t just making random comments out of thin air. He had reasoning behind his logic.

“Because there’s so much upheaval in the league, so much money, so much change, 17-game schedule. So, it’s a much more difficult thing to do than what Brady and Belichick did.”

Moreover, Paolantonio also believed that the competition within the AFC was much stiffer now than when New England was making their attempt. “Not only that, competition within the AFC, where you have Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Pittsburgh is always there, Tua [Tagovailoa] in Miami.

“So I think it’s a greater feat without a doubt. Watch the way they play, and they’re always adapting. So the big thing that they’re doing right now is enabling Mahomes to win on third and fourth down in the third and fourth quarters. His ability to do that allows them to win those close games.”

Unlike most fans and the media, Paolantonio’s focus wasn’t on the refs as the reason behind Kansas City’s dominance. Instead, he focused on the brilliance of the team and its legendary QB.

If they do pull off a victory against the Eagles, they will tie for the most Super Bowl victories in a six-year stretch. Patrick Mahomes, on his own, will move into second place in all-time Super Bowls (tied at four with Joe Montana), and Andy Reid will be just two wins shy of Belichick for all-time playoff wins.

The cement isn’t dry on Kansas City’s run. Yet, week after week, they’re making a very credible argument as the greatest dynasty of all time.
