It has been a tough week for Amazon Prime host Charissa Thompson. Ever since her comments made on Barstool Sports’ ‘Pardon My Take’ hit the internet, it has been a non-stop topic on social media. Many fans and those within the sports journalism world took exception to what she said, and regardless of how she intended for it to be received, it missed the mark widely.
Charissa Thompson Issues Apology After Viral Comment
Thompson has since understood the magnitude of what she said, and all of the discourse that has transpired over the last day or so has led to her feeling the need to comment. Thompson issued an apology and tried to clarify what she meant via an Instagram post this Friday morning.

“Ok let’s address the elephant in the room,” Thompson started. “When on a podcast this week, I said I would make up reports early in my career when I worked as a sideline reporter before I transitioned to my current role” … “Working in media I understand how important words are and I chose the wrong words to describe the situation. I’m sorry.”
“I have never lied about anything or been unethical during my time as a sports broadcaster.” … “I have nothing but respect for sideline reporters and for the tireless work they put in behind the scenes and on the field.”

Clearly, Thompson is feeling the weight of her words and was hoping to clarify any confusion created by her comments while showing respect to her colleagues and the ones who came before her.
What happens from here is unknown; in an industry so predicated on trust and built relationships, one could wonder just how detrimental these words could be for Thompson and her future.
Many Outspoken Words From Those in the Industry
Part of the problem was the immediate impact of Thompson’s words and the disdain from those within her own field. Long-time figures in the industry such as Lisa Salters and Michele Tafoya have spoken out against what Thompson has said.
More so than even fan reaction, it has been the overwhelming reaction from those within her field that has driven these comments into the public eye. With a sense of responsibility and higher standard expected when given the opportunity the be in her position, many who have worked tirelessly to get to that spot, as Thompson has, feel disappointment more than anger about the situation.
