‘I Don’t Regret It’ — Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt Doubles Down on ‘College Offense’ Comment About Commanders

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor wasn't happy with his cornerback's comments, but Cam Taylor-Britt doubled down on what he said.

CINCINNATICincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor made it clear he wasn’t happy with cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt’s comments about Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy two weeks ago.

A little more than a week later, he was taking issue with Taylor-Britt again for calling the Washington Commanders a “nice college offense.”

“That’s not what we do,” Taylor said. “We praise our own team. Praise the other team. We don’t need to take shots like that. That team hasn’t punted in two weeks. They’ve scored on every single possession the last two weeks. I’ve got a tremendous amount of respect for what they’re doing over there.”

Another Diss Comes Back To Bite Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt

Excluding drives with kneeldowns, Washington rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels led touchdowns on the Commanders’ first four possessions and five of six, with the lone exception being a field goal with 11:30 left in the game.

After the dismantling, Taylor-Britt didn’t back down from his comments.

“I do not regret it,” he said. “I didn’t mean anything malicious out of the comment. It was just made bigger than it was.

“Yes, I can eat my words. Most definitely,” he added. “We did take an L today. As a team, it was sort of a college offense — very quick throws. He’s very athletic and extends plays. That’s how the game went. They stuck to their plan.”

In the days leading up to the Kansas City game, Taylor-Britt said Worthy is fast but doesn’t do much else. He said all you have to do is get your hands on him because “he’s only 100-some pounds.”

It wasn’t Worthy serving up the humility, but Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes beat Taylor-Britt for a 44-yard touchdown to Rashee Rice in the first quarter.

Monday night, Taylor-Britt got beat deep again, this time on a 55-yard bomb to Terry McLaurin late in the second quarter, setting up a four-yard touchdown run by Daniels to give Washington a 21-10 lead.

“I knew a deep shot was coming, but at the end of the day I’ve got to run, knowing a guy like that,” Taylor-Britt said. “I didn’t have a chance to get hands on him. I wasn’t pressed. I was off. He stemmed me outside and I opened up, but I have to run.

“Good guy. You have to give it to him at the end of the day,” Taylor-Britt continued. “You know what type of a receiver he is. I’ll never take that from him. But it was my technique.”

Taylor said he spoke with Taylor-Britt about his interviews but said he’d keep the message between them.

Taylor-Britt said he understood his coach’s message but still doesn’t think he said anything inflammatory.

“As a team, it was sort of a college offense,” he said. “Very quick throws, he’s very athletic and extends plays. That’s how the game went. They stuck to their plan. They won the game exactly how I said it.”
