Hunter Renfrow Free Agency Predictions: Potential Landing Spots for the Veteran WR Include Cowboys and Panthers

Another wide receiver is officially hitting the open market. According to multiple reports on Wednesday morning, the Las Vegas Raiders are planning to release veteran wide receiver Hunter Renfrow when the league year begins.

Renfrow has been productive during his young career, and while he isn’t a huge name like some of his colleagues, he is expected to command a market for his services. We discuss some fits that may make sense for Renfrow’s next NFL stop.

    Patriots Need WR Help

The New England Patriots have been active in their pursuit of Jacksonville Jaguars WR Calvin Ridley, and have made it clear that they intend to upgrade their WR room. Whether they get Ridley in the fold or not, there is no indication that they would stop there.

The Patriots are one of the top teams in the NFL regarding available cap space, so money shouldn’t be an issue in their aggressive free agent spending. If they want him, they can go out and make it happen without much thought.

Renfrow could come in and add a reliable piece to the group that can be a strong route runner for Jacoby Brissett or a rookie QB.

A Deal Right Up the Cowboys’ Alley

The Dallas Cowboys are notorious for their frugal spending strategy when it comes to free agency, and through two full days of legal tampering and the soon start of the league year, they still haven’t signed an outside free agent to their team. However, Renfrow and the type of deal he may command could be exactly what Dallas is looking for.

The Cowboys are set with their top two WRs for 2024 — CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks — but a consistent third option has been something they have been looking for. With Michael Gallup set to be released or traded, Renfrow may be a cost-effective option Dallas can bring into the fold.

It’s not a big-time move, but it is one that could be a sneaky good, and that’s seemingly all the Cowboys look to do in free agency.

Panthers Can Continue To Add Talent

The Carolina Panthers — probably more than any team in the NFL — need as much WR help as they can get. Last year’s leading wide receiver was long in the tooth veteran Adam Thielen, and with a new coaching staff and a new plan of attack in 2024, the Panthers may look at every avenue to continue to progress.

Renfrow isn’t flashy, nor is he the biggest name available, but what he can provide is another security blanket for Bryce Young to work with. The Panthers will assuredly add multiple WRs via a combination of the draft and free agency — they traded for Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Diontae Johnson on Tuesday — and a Renfrow acquisition fits the bill.
