What channel is Washington vs. Patriots on? Time, live streams, & more

Washington vs. the Patriots highlights the first night of Week 1 preseason football, but what channel is it on, and what time does it start?

On August 12, Week 1 of the NFL preseason kicks off with the Washington Football Team vs. the New England Patriots. Football fans have been waiting months for a full slate of games, but what channel can you watch Washington and the Patriots? Here are all of the TV channels, live stream options, and start times for the game.

What channel is Washington vs. Patriots on today?

The Washington Football Team will travel to New England to face off against the Patriots in the first national primetime preseason contest since the Hall of Fame Game last week.

Both teams come into the matchup with some interesting storylines. New England is in the midst of a quarterback competition with both newly drafted rookie Mac Jones and veteran Cam Newton vying for the QB1 spot.

Meanwhile, Washington looks to see what it can do with a new gunslinger under center after signing Ryan Fitzpatrick during the offseason. There will also be some intrigue around which QB will end training camp as the official backup to Fitzpatrick with Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinicke competing for the role.

    Washington vs. Patriots start time

    • Date: August 12
    • Time: 7:30 PM ET

Washington vs. the Patriots is one of two games being played on Thursday, August 12. The Pittsburgh Steelers will play their second preseason game when they face off with the Philadelphia Eagles. Both games begin at 7:30 PM ET.

Washington vs. Patriots odds, betting lines, and predictions

    • Spread: Washington -2 (-110)
    • Moneyline: Washington -120, Patriots +110
    • Total: 35 (Over -105, Under -115)

It may not be well known, but we have seen Washington vs. the Patriots 22 times in the preseason. In this 23rd matchup, Washington is favored to win by less than a field goal. New England holds a 14-8 advantage in the previous contests.

It is difficult to handicap a preseason game. There are so many unknowns when it comes to playing time and the final rosters. However, as we witnessed in the Hall of Fame Game, QBs matter. When Ben DiNucci took over for the Dallas Cowboys, the offense stalled. The complete opposite can be said when Joshua Dobbs entered the game for the Steelers.

As mentioned above, Allen and Heinicke are locked in a battle for QB2, and I expect both of them to see significant playing time. However, I also expect to see Jones and Newton quite a bit in this one. So we need to look elsewhere to try and find an edge.

It all comes down to defense. We already know that the Washington Football Team has one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. New England, on the other hand, has a young defense with positional battles all across the roster. Young players like Christian Barmore and Josh Uche will be trying to prove themselves throughout this game. For that reason, I predict the Patriots will get the victory over Washington in a low-scoring defensive battle.
