What to expect from the Pro Bowl Skills Showdown
For the fifth time, the NFL will host the Pro Bowl Skills Showdown. COVID-19 canceled the Pro Bowl last season, but it’s back and ready to go in 2022. While the all-star weekend has yet to return to Hawaii, the Las Vegas Raiders will host the event this season at Allegiant Stadium. Three events return from 2020’s showdown.
One AFC QB, one NFC QB, and a captain-appointed non-quarterback battle it out in a one-minute accuracy competition in the Precision Passing event. Each player will need to hit as many targets as possible. Whoever scores the most points wins.
Thread the Needle also returns this year. The nominated AFC and NFC QBs attempt to earn as many points as possible, hitting targets while the opposing secondary attempts to knock them away.
The final event returning is the grand finale Epic Pro Bowl Dodgeball game. Both conferences go head-to-head in the night’s conclusion in a best-of-three dodgeball tournament. The first two games feature a five vs. five matchup. If a third game is needed, it goes to six vs. six. Just take a look at how fun the action was in the 2020 Pro Bowl Skills Showdown.
Two new events debut in 2022’s Skills Showdown
While the previous three events have taken place in previous Skills Showdowns, the NFL is adding two brand new events this year. The first is the Fastest Man. Two skill-position players from each team go head-to-head in a 40-yard dash as they compete for the NFL’s Fastest Player title.
The second event has a bit more ingenuity. Welcome everyone to the Best Catch. In an NBA Dunk competition-style event, two WRs from each conference will compete in a scored best catch competition. A panel of celebrity judges will watch as these receivers use their imagination to create their dream highlight-reel catch. It will be highly intriguing to see who participates and if anyone already has interesting prop ideas ahead of the event. You can catch the Pro Bowl Skills Showdown tonight at 7 PM ET on ESPN.
