As a former fringe five-star recruit, Clemson RB Will Shipley has naturally drawn looks as one of the next great dynasty RBs to make the NFL transition. What does Shipley bring to the table, and does he size up well as an NFL Draft prospect?
How Tall Is Clemson Tigers RB Will Shipley?
On the Clemson football website, Shipley is listed at 5’11”, the same height he was listed at coming out of high school.
Once he declares for the NFL Draft and receives measurements at the NFL Combine, we’ll have an exact measurement of his height, to the nearest eighth of an inch. But regardless, he’ll likely measure around 5’11”.

Of course, for running backs in particular, height is less important than weight. Running backs under 6’0″ can be better leveraged in contact situations, and if you pack a lot of compact mass at that size, even better.
In Shipley’s case, the Clemson runner weighs in at 210 pounds in 2023. He doesn’t have elite mass and tackle-breaking ability, but he does have enough weight packed on his frame to finish forward in contact situations and scrape through arm tackles in open space. That, combined with his athleticism and natural leverage, gives him exciting playmaking chops.
Shipley Is a Top RB Prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft
The 2024 NFL Draft still lacks a consensus RB1. Prospects like TreVeyon Henderson, Raheim Sanders, and Trey Benson are all in consideration, but so too is Shipley. Shipley doesn’t quite have the size and mass of his counterparts, but his profile might be the most complete.
In Shipley’s scouting report, I said the following about how he separates himself from the rest of the 2024 NFL Draft RB class.
“Shipley is truly a chisel inside the tackles, using his instincts and agility to carve out consistent gains. Meanwhile, he doubles as an elite receiving threat and a quality blocker as well.
“He’s a versatile pass catcher who can run routes from multiple alignments, catch the ball away from his frame, and accrue RAC yards. As a blocker, he’s combative, has a natural feel for leverage, and uses his short-area twitch to reposition himself.
In a modern NFL where phase versatility and all-around utility are craved from RBs, arguably no prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft has more versatility than Shipley.”
