The singer has been a mainstay in the music industry for nearly 30 years now. He initially got his start in the 1990s, breaking out onto the scene by the late ’90s and early 2000s. Usher has several notable hits, including “Yeah!,” “OMG,” “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love,” and “Love In This Club.”
He is one of the most accomplished musicians in this era, with 53 songs as a lead or featured artist placing in the Billboard Hot 100, including 18 in the top 10 and nine that have topped the charts.
Usher was born on Oct. 14, 1978, making him 45 for his performance at the Super Bowl 58 halftime show.

This is the first time that Usher is headlining a Super Bowl, but it’s not his first time being on the halftime stage at the Super Bowl.
In 2011, Usher was one of the guest artists for the Black Eyed Peas show at Super Bowl 45. He joined the group onstage to sing the group’s hit “OMG” with Will.i.am.
Usher has put together an illustrious career in the music industry, To date, the R&B artist has won eight Grammy awards (23 nominations), 35 ASCAP Awards, 18 Billboard Music Awards, 14 BMI Awards, 12 Soul Train Music Awards, and eight American Music Awards (15 nominations).
At the age of 10, Usher joined an R&B local quintet called the Nu Beginning, which was organized by local music promoter Darryl Wheeler. Usher recorded 10 songs with the group in 1991.
At the age of 13, Usher met A.J. Alexander at a local talent show in Atlanta. Alexander, who at the time was Bobby Brown’s bodyguard, would take Usher around and have him perform in parking lots and talent shows.
Usher first released his self-titled debut album in 1994 at the age of 16 and rose to fame in the late 1990s following the release of his second album My Way (1997). It spawned his first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single “Nice & Slow” and saw similar success with its follow-ups.

With his performance, Usher will become the first independent artist to grace the Super Bowl stage, something he told CBS News serves as inspiration for other artists.
