Do the Chicago Bears have the youngest starting quarterback in the NFL? Justin Fields is in Year 3, which means he’s fairly young. But how young?
From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed.
Age of Chicago Bears Quarterback Justin Fields
Long story short, Fields hasn’t reached 25 yet. At age 24, he’s the youngest quarterback among NFC North starters.
Fields was born on March 5, 1999, in Kennesaw, Georgia. He’s also the older brother to two step sisters — one of whom, Jaiden, played softball at the University of Georgia, the first university Fields attended.
That was before he eventually transferred to Ohio State and became a prominent collegiate star as a dual-threat quarterback. Fields, now in Year 3 of the NFL, was 22 when he was drafted by the Bears.
Which Starting QBs are Younger Than Fields in the NFL?
Fields is older than his successor at Ohio State, who’s now in the NFL: C.J. Stroud, who’s 22. Stroud isn’t the only starting quarterback younger than Fields.
The first overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, Bryce Young, is also the same age as Stroud. The youngest in the league, though, is Indianapolis Colts starter Anthony Richardson, who is 21.
Another quarterback younger than Fields is Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Trey Lance, who’s 23 and entered the NFL at the same time Fields did.
Ironically, the upcoming Thursday Night Football showdown between Fields’ Bears and the Washington Commanders features a passer who’s also younger than the Chicago starter.

On the opposite side of Fields is Sam Howell, who is a year younger than Fields at 23. Howell, though, arrived in the NFL a year after Fields as the Commanders took him in the fifth round of the 2022 draft at No. 144.
As for the rest of the NFC North passers, Fields is around the same age as Green Bay Packers starter Jordan Love. However, Love will turn 25 on Nov. 2.
