San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is one of the best in the league and is currently at the forefront of the MVP race. With his talent, many may be surprised to hear what his salary is.
Brock Purdy’s Salary
Recently, Purdy’s salary has been brought up after Niners running back Christian McCaffrey surprised his offensive teammates with some impressive Christmas gifts. According to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, each player received a PXG golf bag, a bottle of tequila, and a coupon for a custom fitting for a new set of clubs.
“Any time you’re giving the gifts, it’s always tough,” McCaffrey said. “You’ve got to get creative; you’ve got to do something that kind of panders to everybody. And I figured if they don’t play golf, they will at some point in their life, so better to be prepared than not. It’s nice to have a bag of clubs in the garage.”
Often, a team’s starting quarterback will give gifts to at least his offensive linemen. That wasn’t really a possibility for Brock Purdy, whose annual salary currently ranks 85th among NFL quarterbacks. He’s set to take home $870,000 this season.
“Yeah, financially, I wouldn’t be able to cover that right now,” Purdy said. “But shout out to him. Everyone loved it. So yeah, thank you, Christian.”
McCaffrey is the NFL’s highest-paid running back, as he will earn a base salary of $1,080,000 in 2023. McCaffrey got a $21.5 million signing bonus in 2020 when he signed.
Purdy’s salary has become a talking point this season, particularly after it was revealed he lived with a roommate in the Bay Area. Despite being one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks, Purdy makes well below the tens of millions most NFL starting quarterbacks make.

While Purdy’s salary is no low number, to put it in perspective — Texas quarterback Arch Manning is earning three times as much money as Purdy despite never having started a game in college football.
QBs that match Purdy’s salary in less than one game include Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Daniel Jones, Deshaun Watson, Joe Burrow, Dak Prescott, and many more.
Of course, his low salary is because he is on his rookie salary after he was drafted last overall in 2022.
Purdy should soon be on the receiving end of greater deals than his current contract. As the face of one of the NFL’s best teams, Purdy will have the opportunity to sign endorsement deals like the one he already has with Alaska Airlines.
Purdy will also likely sign a larger contract extension with the 49ers, presumably closer to when his rookie deal is up.
This season, Purdy has set himself up to be a frontrunner in the MVP race as he has completed 69.8% of his passes for 3,795 yards, 29 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
He has led the Niners to an 11-3 record, and the team is currently favored to win the Super Bowl.
On Christmas Day, San Francisco will take on the 11-3 Ravens in what should be an exciting holiday matchup between two of the best teams in the league.
