The Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys are two of the most famous NFL franchises. Their history goes back a long way, and the next installment of the rivalry will take place in the playoffs when the Packers travel to Dallas.
As you would expect, two of the NFL’s biggest teams have met each other several times in the postseason.
Packers vs. Cowboys Postseason History
The Packers and the Packers have met eight previous times in the NFL Playoffs, with the record tied with both teams winning four games a piece. The 2023 postseason matchup will be the ninth time they have played, equalling the Cowboys’ nine playoff games against the 49ers and the Rams.
In the 1990s, there were three straight years where the Cowboys beat the Packers in the postseason. In fact, between 1991 and 1996, the Cowboys won eight straight games against the Packers.

One of the most famous NFL games ever played was between the Packers and the Cowboys when they faced off in the 1967 NFL Championship Game.
You may know the game better as “The Ice Bowl,” which is famous for being played in temperatures of -13 degrees. When wind chill was taken into account, the temperature felt like -48.
2015 saw another classic moment in these teams’s playoff history. The Dez Bryant catch. Was it a catch? That is up to your interpretation; we all saw it. However, it was ruled as an incomplete pass after being reviewed, a decision that turned the game on its head.
Green Bay won that game 26-21, but it could all have been so different. There was 4:42 left in the fourth quarter, and the Cowboys needed to convert a 4th-and-2.

Cowboys QB Tony Romo threw a pass to Bryant, who made an exceptional catch, reaching toward the end zone, when the ball bobbled. It was ruled a catch short of the goal line on the field, but after review, the call was overturned.
It was deemed Bryant hadn’t retained possession, giving the ball back to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers and losing them the game. That moment changed the NFL catch rules forever and altered the NFL rulebook.
The most recent postseason game was in 2017 when Green Bay defeated Dallas 34-31 in the Divisional Round.
