Following the USFL and XFL merger, the UFL held its inaugural season, which wraps up this weekend when the Birmingham Stallions and San Antonio Brahmas face off in the first-ever UFL Championship.
With the UFL receiving more attention as the season comes to a close, let’s take a look at the eight UFL teams and where they are located.
Examining the 8 UFL Teams
There are eight teams in the UFL and they each play a 10-game schedule.
Arlington Renegades
The Renegades won the XFL championship in 2023 and are coached by former Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops.
A couple of the notable Renegades players are linebacker Vic Beasley and punter Marquette King. The team’s QB is Luis Perez, who was the quarterback of the team last season; he has been as good as any passer in spring football in recent years.
Birmingham Stallions
The Stallions are another team that has had a ton of success in spring football. Birmingham won the USFL championship in consecutive years under coach Skip Holtz. Matt Corral, who previously played for the Carolina Panthers, is the quarterback of the team.

Wide receiver Gary Jennings Jr. and Amari Rodgers are two of the more notable players in Birmingham.
DC Defenders
Leading the way for the Defenders is coach Reggie Barlow, who played eight seasons in the NFL. Former Ole Miss quarterback Jordan Ta’amu is the team’s starting QB.
Safety D.J. Swearinger and cornerback Gareon Conley are two players on the roster with NFL experience.
Houston Roughnecks
The Roughnecks are in a unique position, as Houston’s USFL and XFL franchises merged to form this new squad. Curtis Johnson is the team’s head coach, and he spent time in the NFL working with Sean Payton. In his first year coaching in Houston, he led the squad to a 5-5 record.
Linebacker Reuben Foster and tight end Ryan Izzo both spent time in the NFL, with Foster being a first-round pick out of Alabama.
Memphis Showboats
John DeFilippo joined the Showboats after coaching in the USFL as the head coach for the New Orleans Breakers. The Showboats have a quarterback with plenty of experience, as Case Cookus has thrown for 3,269 yards and 27 touchdowns over his last two years in the USFL.
Linebacker Dylans Moses and Vince Papale, who is the son of Philadelphia Eagles icon Vince Papale.
Michigan Panthers
Former San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan is the guy in charge for the Panthers. He was also a defensive coordinator for eight years. Danny Etling is the quarterback for the team — he is a former seventh-round pick by the New England Patriots.
The team has two of Puka Nacua’s younger brothers on their team in wide receiver Samson and five-year NFL safety Kai.
San Antonio Brahmas
No one in this league has more experience coaching football than Wade Phillips, who is leading San Antonio. He coached in the NFL for nearly 50 years, with many of those as a head coach. He had a 90-73 record in nine seasons as a head coach.

Tom Flacco, the younger brother of Joe Flacco, is a quarterback on the team. Kade Warner, the son of NFL Hall of Famer quarterback Kurt Warner, is also on the Brahmas.
St. Louis Battlehawks
Former NFL tight end Anthony Becht is the head coach. He played 11 seasons in the NFL. Becht was the coach last year for St. Louis, leading the team to a 7-3 record.
Former Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron returned to lead the team. He finished with 2,150 passing yards and 24 touchdowns in 2023.
Former Iowa State receiver Hakeem Butler and running back Wayne Gallman are two guys NFL fans should recognize. This season, Butler won the UFL’s Offensive Player of the Year award.
