The Jacksonville Jaguars suffered a massive blow to their offense last night, as quarterback Trevor Lawrence was knocked out of the game and needed help getting off of it with an ankle injury. Jacksonville went on to lose the game and suffered their fourth loss of the season.
Everyone within the Jaguars organization is hoping the injury isn’t as bad as it looked and will be monitoring the situation as the week goes on.
How Long Is Trevor Lawrence Out?
The initial diagnosis for Lawrence’s injury is that it is an ankle sprain. The team will learn further information regarding the severity and how much time he is expected to miss following an MRI that will take place sometime today.
While there is no definitive answer on his timeline right now, backup QB C.J. Beathard seemed optimistic about Lawrence after the game stating he was “in good spirits,” before adding, “Obviously he’s sore right now.”
Head coach Doug Pederson spoke last night and said that it’s something they are obviously monitoring. Yet, if they need to turn to Bethard for any amount of time, it’s something they believe can still get the job done.
“We’ll see where Trevor’s at first, but we’ve got 100% confidence in C.J.,” Pederson said. “He’s a veteran player. He’s played a lot of football, and if he happens to be the guy, then we’ll get behind him and support him.
“It’s full steam ahead,” Pederson continued. “We’ve got to get the guys that are hurt treated, and we’ve got to get the next guy ready to go.”
C.J. Beathard Is Next Man Up
Just how much — if any time at all — Lawrence is expected to miss is unknown right now. But what is known is who will step up in his absence if needed.
Beathard is an NFL veteran and journeyman QB. He came in last night in relief of Lawrence and completed 9 of 10 passes for 63 yards as well as led an end-of-regulation drive that culminated in a score-tying field goal to force overtime.

Beathard is in his sixth NFL season. The Jags are his second team following a three-year stint with the San Francisco 49ers. If Beathard is called upon, there seems to be a sense of quiet confidence coming from the team that he can get the job done in a pinch.
