Russell Wilson has made a name for himself in the NFL, whether that’s via his successful tenure with the Seattle Seahawks or the meme-able comments he made after joining the Denver Broncos.
The Broncos quarterback has had quite the ride (pun intended) throughout his time in the league. How long ago did Wilson begin playing in the NFL?
Russell Wilson’s NFL Career
Wilson played college football and baseball at NC State from 2008 to 2010 and then transferred to Wisconsin in 2011, where he set the single-season FBS record for passer rating and led the team to a Big Ten title and the 2012 Rose Bowl.
In his final college season with Wisconsin, Wilson completed 72.8 percent of his passes for 3,175 yards, 33 touchdowns, and four interceptions.
The Seahawks selected Wilson in the third round (75th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft. During his first season in Seattle, he tied Peyton Manning’s then-record for most passing touchdowns by a rookie and was named NFL Rookie of the Year.
Wilson, who has been named to nine Pro Bowls, led the Seahawks to two consecutive Super Bowls, winning one in 2014.
Wilson was the highest-paid player in the NFL in 2019 when he signed a four-year, $140 million contract extension with the Seahawks.

On March 16, 2022, the Seahawks traded Wilson and a fourth-round pick to the Broncos in exchange for two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-round pick, quarterback Drew Lock, defensive lineman Shelby Harris, and tight end Noah Fant.
Wilson has since struggled during his time with the Broncos. Last season, the Broncos finished with a 5-12 record as Wilson put up a career-low 60.5% completion rate along with 3,524 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
The Broncos currently sit at 3-5, with Wilson completing 66.1% of his passes for 1,613 yards, 16 touchdowns, and four interceptions.
While Wilson is having a more promising season so far, he has not been able to reach the same level he regularly did with the Seahawks.
The Broncos face the 5-4 Bills on Monday Night Football. Denver is riding a two-game win streak and is coming off of an impressive 24-9 victory over the Chiefs as the Broncos look to continue to work towards turning their season around.
