After a grand slam with their 2023 rookie class, the Houston Texans aim to sustain their momentum. How do they keep themselves in playoff contention?

The Houston Texans struck gold with an outstanding rookie class in 2024. Now that they have established cornerstones in quarterback C.J. Stroud and pass rusher Will Anderson, how do they continue to stack out their roster in the NFL Draft to keep themselves in playoff contention?

This mock draft was made using Pro Football Network’s Mock Draft Simulator.

Houston Texans 7-Round 2024 NFL Mock Draft

Round 1, Pick 23: Darius Robinson, EDGE, Missouri

If Jonathan Greenard does indeed walk in free agency, Houston should aim to find a full-time replacement for him. They had some surprising flashes from Derek Barnett to close out the season, but they need a full-time investment there opposite of Will Anderson Jr.

Darius Robinson has the tools and athleticism to start right away as an end for Houston, but he can also kick inside and create different looks that they can use to harass opposing quarterbacks.

Round 2, Pick 59: Max Melton, CB, Rutgers

Seemingly every cornerback but Derek Stingley Jr. is hitting free agency, leaving behind a significant hole. Max Melton has been a steady riser this offseason, showing his smooth athleticism and competitiveness at the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine.

Round 3, Pick 86: Ricky Pearsall, WR, Florida

Ricky Pearsall was simply too talented to pass on here. Noah Brown hits free agency and Robert Woods has just one year left on his deal. Pearsall can step right in to give the Texans another talented receiver with his fantastic route-running ability and hands.

Round 4, Pick 122: MarShawn Lloyd, RB, USC

The Texans were hoping to get better production out of Dameon Pierce this year, and Devin Singletary is set to hit free agency. The team simply has to get more out of the ground game if they are going to insist on being run-heavy.

MarShawn Lloyd‘s explosiveness, combined with his ability as a three-down back, give Houston yet another dynamic weapon to add around Stroud.

Round 4, Pick 126: Fabien Lovett, DT, Florida State

Houston’s defense is missing a consistent run-stuffer in the middle to help keep linebackers clean. Fabien Lovett has the length and size to handle two-gapping duties and stave off double-teams on the interior.

Round 7, Pick 224: Josiah Ezirim, OT, Eastern Kentucky

Almost 100 picks later, the Texans close out their draft with three seventh-round picks which should be almost purely for depth. Who knows what the Texans will opt to do with their reshuffled offensive line, but they need to develop depth behind their starters and keep Stroud clean.

Round 7, Pick 238: Dominique Hampton, S, Washington

Houston needs to add to the depth of its safety room with several pending free agents. Dominique Hampton is a versatile safety product who can fill in for various responsibilities and stand out on special teams.

Round 7, Pick 247: Jarrett Kingston, OL, USC

Much like the Josiah Ezirim pick, the Texans continue to stock up and fill out the depth of their offensive line. Jarrett Kingston has played every spot but center in his college career, giving him intriguing versatility as a depth lineman.
